Blurryeye should be a moderator. I don't think there are any female mods since GoldBootGirl disappeared. I've never known what criteria Forrest applies to moderatorship but this chicks got it.

The thing is, Kevin Smith really isn't for everyone. You have to be in the mood to have an idea slapped down in front of you and beaten the crap out of for two hours, with no small amount of intellectual monologues along the way. Personally, "Clerks." (please don't forget the fecking period, you Philistines) is one of my all-time favorites. I guess the difference between people who get him and people who don't is whether one can see his films for what they are, character studies of realistic people grappling with realistic issues, or what they appear to be, two-hour orgies of cursing, sex, and drugs. The same argument is being held over "The Passion of the Christ." Is it a graphic portrayal of Christ's unconditional love for us, or two hours of pouring blood on the audience? To quote the Geto Boyz, "Everything's cool in the mind of a gangsta cause real gangsta ass gentlemans (aka Smithies) think deep." I guess this all just leaves my head "Rowsdower"ed to one side. Incidentally, I like Hitch"Rowsdower". And "Rowsdower" fights. Just as long as no one "Rowsdower"s everything up. ~Steve Herbert Hoover! ;D Oh, I didn't realize there was a period in the title "Clerks." Wow, you know, that really changes things. Actually, that period completely changes my opinion of the movie! Oh wait, no, that period makes it even more pretentious and annoying. (Sorry, Steve, I'm on a sarcasm kick right now). As I said, I was fully primed to enjoy the movie. I'd heard nothing but good things about it, seriously. And I kinda liked Dogma when I saw it, but only as a one-time thing. I was expecting it to be a character study of realistic people grappling with realistic issues, all with a lot of humor thrown in. I tell you, I wanted to enjoy it. So it was a harsh, jarring experience from the opening frame. Boy, did I not enjoy it. I've got to disagree with you that it shows "realistic people" grappling with issues. The characters in the movie seemed more like caricatures to me. Sure, there are a lot of Gen Xers who are similar to these guys, and there were a couple good ideas, but I agree with MightyJack that they were not fleshed out well. I didn't see much "deep thinking" going on in Clerks, by the director or the characters. I did see that they thought they were deep thinkers, however. I wrote, "That whole 'gen X ironic, just don't give a damn' attitude has turned stale and died on the vine, because that attitude is one of self-pity that does not change anything. People have gotten tired of it because it is stupid." No Smith supporter has argued this point. And those people I mentioned before, who are similar to the characters in the movie? They're annoying. Sorry, but it's true. And BobJohnson, I won't be watching "Clerks." or "Dogma" five times. I think I understand "Clerks." quite well enough, thank you. I admire your dedication, though.#nosmileys

I haven't seen Clerks. but I agree on Dogma. I think the whole thing about the movie was making each character as rediculous as possible (i.e. the overly pretentious British angel who is the voice of God) and besides that fact, if the angel can teleport them to a bistro, why not to the church DIRECTLY!

Wow, that is a huge compliment, Phantom. Thanks, if I ever needed my ego to be boosted, it was after reading Man_Without_Hat's reply. And then, Boom! the biggest compliment a person can be given here. Although my ego is pretty freakin' strong already, if you haven't noticed. Yes, I do this for all my fans out there, without you I would be nothing! But no autographs, no autographs, please.

BTW, where the heck is Pile-on-Pete?

Well, maybe my love of Bob Dylan will offset the damage that liking "American Idol" will do to his opinion of me. Cuz, he really likes Bob Dylan, and stuff.
And I don't know where ol' PileOnPete went. Maybe he had to go mining for gold in Nevada.

D'Oh! Well, I can't please everyone, I guess. But let's not turn this into another American Idol/reality TV debate here. Damn you, Night, for even bringing it up! I want to stick to the topic of Kevin Smith being played out. We agree on that, right, Sampo?

I think that a couple of Kevin Smiths movies are played out, but I’m not sure if he is. I think that Clerks was a product of its time. It was relevant when it came out in the early 90’s, but things have changed since then (big time) and the characters in that movie who I could once identify with now seem whiny. Does anyone remember how good we had it in the early 90’s? We were spoiled as hell, and I think that Clerks and Mall Rats reflect that. Dante’s problems don’t seem so significant post 911. I’m going to wait until I see Jersey Girl before I write him off completely; I just hope that it’s better than Jay and Silent Bob!

I'll agree that Kevin Smith is overrated and his movies are often pretentious.
But what I'd really pay a lot of money to see is Bob Dylan on American Idol. He'd get torn apart. Especially if he tried to pass off his honking a harmonica as musicianship.#nosmileys

Sampos just a cranky old man. And he's not even old. You? Talking about someone being old and cranky? Well, as my grandmother used to say, that's the pot calling the kettle black. Or, wait, he's not bitter is he? Cause, that makes a difference. Servo

Dylan would get ripped a new one on American Idol. So would Jonh Fogerty and Giddy Lee. It's really not about Rock n Roll is it

Dylan would get ripped a new one on American Idol. So would John Fogerty and Giddy Lee. It's really not about Rock n Roll is it? It's about pretty voiced singers belting out predictable bland songs. Or is it? I don't know, I'm far too bitter and jaded to watch that tripe.

Who is Kevin Smith? Is he related to John Smith or Rick James?
