Rifftrax's latest live show Kickstarter is for yet another reriff and another they'd never be able to re-release on a home format.
I've never seen Krull, but Space Mutiny is one that I had anticipated for a while. I asked myself last year what would be their next hook for a Kickstarter, and I thought to myself "probably a reriff of an MST episode, maybe Werewolf or Space Mutiny." Looks like I was right on the money.
I'll contribute because I have the funds, plus I'm interested in seeing if Krull makes for a good riff. Space Mutiny I'm not really interested in, especially after how bad Time Chasers was. But I liked their Manos and Santa Claus shows, so I'll see it to see if it's as strong as those.
The one takeaway though is that it looks like they're scaling back to two live shows. I'll keep my fingers crossed for another shorts show though.

I figure the Space Mutiny reriff is the type of thing that'll bring in a big crowd and continue to show Fathom broadcasting these are simply good business.
Krull is prime material. It was essentially Columbia Pictures' attempt to go head to head with Return of the Jedi in the summer of 1983 (spoiler: they blinked and moved the movie to a later date, and it bombed anyway), so they threw a lot of money at it ($27m was high-end on the movie budget scale at the time). It's cheerfully earnest, gloriously silly and it's got a fantastic score by James Horner. I'm expecting something like their Jack the Giant Killer riff.

I've seen Krull, but I don't remember much from it as it was years ago - I'm guessing not long after it came out when it went on HBO or something. I don't even remember if I saw it in a theater or not. I think I had a card game from that movie. I'll certainly go to that, it should prove interesting. And I'll probably check out Space Mutiny as well. Alan (Alun) Armstrong is in Krull, I wonder if they'll do a "Master of the House" joke as he played Thenardier in Les Mis. He's on the BBC series New Tricks, also. I really wish they would put that on BBC America. I saw it a few times when it was on PBS. Good show.

Krull ought to be a fun one. While it's not a bad fantasy movie at all, it's sufficiently silly enough to give them good material.

Rifftrax has added a stretch goal. For every 200 backers, everyone at $1 or above gets a free short. If you already have a short, you get $1 in Rifftrax credit for each one you have. So if you haven't backed, this is a great way to get a bunch of shorts or a bunch of credit for only a buck.
3700 Backers - Get That Job 3900 Backers - Overcoming Fear 4100 Backers - Farm Family in Summer 4300 Backers - Batman Trapped! 4500 Backers - Jimmy of the Safety Patrol 4700 Backers - Courtesy: A Good Eggsample 4900 Backers - Busy Bodies 5100 Backers - The Maturing Woman 5300 Backers - Say No to Strangers 5500 Backers - At Your Fingertips: Play Clay

I really want to see Kevin in cosplay.
But if they touch It's a Wonderful Life, heads are going to roll.

I really want to see Kevin in cosplay. But if they touch It's a Wonderful Life, heads are going to roll. If memory serves, there was a Q&A at ConventioCon II where someone asked when they'd riff on a good movie. Mike replied that he wasn't sure how many laughs they'd get out of "It's a Wonderful Life". Paul immediately started shouting, "Jump! Jump!" Hey, if "Saturday Night Live" could spoof the movie and make it funny, Rifftrax definitely can.

The last of the financial goals (for now) has been unlocked. The campaign ends tomorrow, and there are still three backer-based stretch goals to unlock.

There are about 12 hours left on the Kickstarter. A $1 pledge gets you 10 shorts or a mix of shorts and Rifftrax.com credit if you own some of them. As long as the campaign gets 300 more backers today, that $1 would also get you a Solo: A Star Wars Story riff, and possibly Ready Player One and It's a Wonderful Life riffs.

Did anyone go to the Space Mutiny one? I was all set to go, and somehow forgot Thursday night. Was it any good? It seems Rifftrax lately is just them, like, non-stop talking, and not really being as funny as they used to be, just kind of over-doing it. If it rebroadcasts on Tuesday where I am, will it be worth my while? What does anyone who saw it think?
I'll probably still go to the Krull one as it's something I haven't seen them do before. If I don't FORGET. Ugh.
