I'm not a huge fan of the way Joel worded that last update either. It's really not hard to see how people can take it the wrong way and just as I thought panic attack posts are springing up by fans on social media. I'm like "Calm your tits. This is normal."
The pledge drive however is a pretty good idea. It lets the fans who want to be involved stay involved, and there is some cool exclusive merchandise. I know that blu-ray set will go great next to my Kickstarter blu-ray!
But MST is not in danger. Viewership on Netflix will decide that.

I'm down with calling it a Pledge Drive, if only for the Public Pearl TV Pledge Drive image opportunities.
That's maybe not the best reason to enjoy it, but I'm also at a loss for what else to call it. "Fund Raiser" maybe.

You know given the fact they said they were going to do some more mainstream flops, I hope that means one day they’ll tackle Howard the Duck!

I wouldn't be against that, though it might be too comical of a film. But it has some bizarre moments that are supposed to be dead serious. I've been hoping for Shout to do a Collector's Edition blu-ray of Howard myself.

I’d probably put Howard the Duck on the same level as the movie that’s already been leaked for Season 12, which also has its share of failed comedy attempts of its own. But like you said, it’s the stuff your supposed to take seriously that make both movies such prime riffing material imo!

I haven't seen [REDACTED], so I don't really have a point of reference to how comical it is compared to Howard. I do have something of a soft love for Howard though, it being the first movie based on a Marvel Comic and all (something that's easy to forget in a post-Avengers climate) and I actually find it fairly funny and delightfully weird. I'd consider it being on MST a badge of honor if it were to ever happen.

Just FYI, the pledge drive is supposed to be ending tomorrow on the 17th, so if you still want to make a pledge you should do it today. season12.mst3k.com/

Thinking about what was said in the Kickstarter update regarding the episodes “written to encourage binge-watching” … Why “encourage” and not facilitate or accomodate? I'm down with calling it a Pledge Drive, if only for the Public Pearl TV Pledge Drive image opportunities. That was my first thought, too, but it didn't seem like any actual allusion was made.

Oh, no, no. That kind of photoshop sight gag is almost always left for the fans, or for a single plucky social media intern with nothing to lose and followers to gain.

So less episodes and the reason given is that people binge watch... and they're asking for more $$$ despite a deal with NETFLIX? Something about that rubs me the wrong way... Joel isn't asking for $$$ to fund this new season, that money is coming from Netflix. What they are doing is offering people the chance to get involved with season 12 in a similar manner to what happened with season 11. Some fans wanted to see another crowd funding campaign but this isn't on the same scale compared to the season 11 campaign since there aren't nearly as many rewards this time around. This pledge drive is offering chance to be a producer, get one of the Tom or Crow puppets used in the season or get your name in a "special thanks" section during the credits. Besides that it's the chance to get a collector's boxset or digital copies of the episode, a new poster and a tote bag. My guess is that most of the funds that'll be generated by this new pledge drive will go towards the production of those items, so the cost of them will (hopefully) be lower than what the prices were for the items during the season 11 campaign when they were offered as add-ons.
I wanted to offer some additional perspective on this for anyone who is interested. Mind you that I don't have any involvement in any way, production or otherwise, with either Netflix or the MST3k Relaunch. So, this isn't an insider look. Satellite Of Love LLC owns the legal rights to produce and license MST3k properties. Other than the very unlikely scenario that there are some deals being made off the table, so to speak, Satellite Of Love LLC is not a subsidiary of Netflix. Netflix likely has a licensing arrangement with SOL LLC which promises them certain guarantees in exchange for funding of the show, but SOL is an independent studio with its own producers and crew. However, that funding would probably be earmarked in the budget for certain aspects of the MST3k production. There are undoubtedly other areas which SOL LLC would like to expand and which are not covered by that aforementioned budget. Furthermore, SOL LLC apparently has no contractual obligation to Netflix for anything other than providing the Relaunched series through Netflix's distribution channels. From what I can tell at time of writing, SOL LLC has no contractual restrictions which prevent them from licensing MST3k to Dark Horse or even with releasing the s11 episodes on buy-to-own, non-Netflix, discs. To put it another way: When you support the MST3k ‘crowdfunding’ campaigns, you are entering into an arrangement directly with SOL LLC — and that has nothing to do with Netflix.
