So not exactly a “broadcast upload” per say, but this is something I wanted to share on the forum and may as well do so on this thread since the entire video otherwise was taped from personal fan recording Comedy Central episodes in the 90s. So this is a 6-hour shorts compilation tape my dad made around 1999 (I want to say) that also includes the opening theme/host segments and any that came after double theater-segmented shorts. Might be a bias but I liked this flow more over the regular commercially-released shorts tapes. But anyway, this particular tape was one of my first MAJOR introductions to the show when I REALLY started to get into the series in 1999 when I was six years old and in kindergarten (having previously seen bits and pieces with my parents in our den when I was a toddler and having glimpsed the theatrical movie 2 years prior when my parents rented the VHS at our local Movie Gallery, I want to say). It was one I would watch VERY frequently during the single digit years (I started to give it a rest by the time I was 9 I wanna say) and was just an overall popular tape with my family in our house….. with that consequence alas came some pretty bad tracking problems with the tape. With that in mind, I do want to thank Kolos himself for giving this a second go with dubbing on his Sony VCR (even if not preferred to use) because the results came out MUCH better than the first time, and just overall giving it a safe capture with beautiful restoration in spite of some existing tape blips here and there. I’ll also be uploading a second shorts compilation tape similar to this that I made when I was 15 years old in 2008, and a couple regular broadcast episode uploads with the help of Kolos himself who doesn’t wish to personally upload them on his channel (and weren’t otherwise previously posted by him either) in the not too distant future; every pun intended. In the mean time, have a watch if you wish - a short you might like could be on there: youtu.be/CPvPugGLOJYAlso included at the VERY end is a small, brief clip of the season 4 finale “ER” episode “A Hole in the Heart” (which I think MAY have been taped around its initial 1998 airing) on MSNBC. It looks to me from the tape label and what remains at the end is this was probably an MSNBC tape that got taped over with MST shorts (which I’m not complaining about of course).

Okay, wow….. you KNOW YouTube’s copyright system is flawed when the video is blocked in some countries (at least not America) when “Lost Continent” of all movies is somehow “detected” in that video (when there are absolutely NO traces of the movie or its host segments)….. but, eh, whatever, I guess. 🤷♂️

So i’ll be honest, I’ve always hated this commercial since I was a kid after seeing it a couple times on a few of my dad’s Comedy Central Mst3k tapes with how absolutely disgusting it is, but I’ve grown to hate it even more with age after seeing it even MORE in a couple 1991/1992/1993 recordings I don’t have on tape. youtu.be/D48YKs8KI3g

Ha ha, I remember that commercial. Hasn't there actually been studies that say the antibacterial part of soap does almost nothing, it's the soap washing away the dirt and bacteria that is important?

The Internet Archive people are a godsend. I found the April 9th, 1996 broadcast airing of Godzilla vs. Megalon featuring commercials such as Burger King's Western Whopper, the Crocodile Dundee Subaru Outback ad, and more!

This might sound a bit petty, but I’m not gonna lie….. I really, really, really, REALLY hate seeing local ads mask over national ads in some Mst3k broadcast uploads (particularly from 1994-1996). I’ve always hated local ads since I was a kid, but I’ve grown to hate them even MORE with age. Especially since I noticed one instance where it overlays one of my favorite commercials in a Turkey day ‘94 upload (the Comedy Central Scheduling department promo), and other instances where they cut out a portion of the beginning of a theater or host segment (this was an instance I saw with a 1996 recording of “Bloodlust”). It just takes way the fun of seeing what nationwide ads actually aired on those days/time periods. Some local ads in particular that have REALLY bugged me were ones involving Cox (I only had them for 8 months when I was attending college in Rhode Island, and I was SO grateful to be rid of them with how absolutely bad their service was. It didn’t help that an ignorant cox driver almost ran right into my car as I was pulling out of my complex at the Wendy’s right in front of it; I reported this to the company across from my complex at the time and the guy I was calling gave me a VERY half-assed apology. Says a lot about them).

That said…. I’m not faulting Kolos nor the folks who recorded the tapes as I know the former only receives and digitizes and the latter were all just folks who taped these 30 years ago….. but yeah….. those local ads bug me….. THEY REALLY BUG ME!!!!!

So I went to find a copy of Robot Monster on YouTube (to experiment around with something in Premiere)…. Only to discover that literally every single existing full upload of the episode (including broadcast uploads) were gone….. has this movie suddenly been a target specifically with Mst3k uploads? I’m fairly certain this movie is in the public domain if I’m not mistaken….

So I just found this internet archive upload of a 6-hour 1992 MST episode tape that has (what looks to be) the premiere airing of “Teenagers from Outer Space,” and it seems its initial airing didn’t have the slate card on it. Interesting. archive.org/details/6-hours-of-mst-3-k-from-old-ebay-tape

Oh man, the quality of that poor tape. Either that's a 2nd gen copy, or the person that ripped it had a crap VCR. I may download that, isolate the 404 premiere and see what I can do. But boy is that in bad shape.

I overslept for the premiere of that episode (and they only aired it Saturday morning. It didn't get a replay due to a CC marathon that night, for several months). But that's very fascinating if indeed true. They definitely showed the slate for 405 on its first airing the next week.
