We've started to see the odd protest in London over restrictions. It only amounted to a couple of hundred people and was a mix of 'Covid-19 doesn't exist, it's an attack on our civil liberties but I'm wearing a mask anyway' nutters and 'Covid-19 exists, which is why I'm wearing a mask, but it's all due to G5 from the mobile telephone masts' cockwombles. We've even had one instance of an idiot trying to burn down a G5 mast.
We also have the worst death toll in Europe, although anyone who dies and tests positive for Covid-19 is counted as having died of it. It's run rampant in care homes but is now on the wane. There were also several large 'auxillary ICU's' built in conference halls around the country but these, Thankfully, have not been needed. The messages from the Government have been mixed and this isn't helped by having a UK government and devolved parliaments and first leaders in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
Handling the crisis has been a real issue for the Government. Initially slow to start taking measures, they do appear to have least been led by science, which is a good thing. Financially, they're done rather well. Anyone who is furloughed by their company has 80% of their salary guaranteed (up to £2500 per month) and this will continue until October of this year. This, being a conservative government, means that we'll pay for it down the line but that's tomorrows issue.
As a whole, the quarantine has been largely obeyed. The lock down in England was loosened to a certain extent Wednesday last week, with some workers being told that they can go back to work. As someone that has been travelling back and forth to work by car the whole time, there really isn't an increase in the amount of traffic on the roads.
In conclusion: I miss the pub.

I just read a story online that said rhesus macaques STOLE covid blood samples from a lab in New Dehli.
WHAT???!!!
If they know monkeys get in windows, don't they have some kind of secure screens they can put on? What kind of lab is THAT? Can't be too sanitary or secure. Is there some glitch in the Matrix? Are we truly living in a movie now? Hello? Are any of you real out there?
That is the most ridiculous thing (or one of) I've ever read. Is that actually true? What a world.
Edit: I just read the story from another source that said it was in Meerut and that a technician was carrying them outside to take to another location. "News" stories have turned into sound bites with no detail. I don't know what or who to believe anymore.

A bus driver in France was beaten by some passengers who refused to wear a mask. He was pronounced brain dead in the hospital and his family decided to let him go. Once again tragedy strikes. Once again, people in the comment section of the story were bitching about "right" this "left" that.
Way to go humanity.

Violence is inherent with people with extreme views. Someone who takes offense at the idea that its a good idea to protect people from a deadly disease have extreme views.

Well, crap. My job is on hiatus for at least 10 or so days since someone else tested positive there. Fortunately, I don't have contact with them for the most part, but this means I also get to have the "test" tomorrow. And my finances are already on the razor's edge. Hell, I still owe on last year's property tax & now I just got this year's bill as well. poopie.
Update: At least the test came back negative already. So, that's a weight off my mind.

I was finally able to see my sister today. (And on her birthday). She's doing fine without us.

My sister had a weird sore throat the other day, which can apparently be a super uncommon symptom. This was almost exactly two weeks after she had to be on a train where someone, with absolutely no mask or protective gear, staggered into the seat in front of her and had a huge coughing fit.
Fortunately, it' passed and nothing seems to have come of it.
I tell ya, it's not the daily quarantine that gets to me, it's having a constant running feed of my last two weeks' worth of activities that I have to keep second guessing.

Your wrong it's the total Stupidity of people we have to put up with on a daily basis and it just angers me on how people believe that it's to get trump out of office. i can't stand the guy don't get me wrong but these people neglect to even consider that people in say Guam the people i'm sure know who he is but they care zilch weather he's in office or not in the states where i'm from. so the fact that they would fake all this to get some guy out of an office that isn't even in their country is total utter madness. anyways i hops your sister is doing better and stays that way too

Afgncaap 5: I also hope your sister is okay.
mitchell33: 25 lbs is friggin' awesome. Congrats on your weight loss and hope you find work.
I'm also not working. I'm kind of nervous to find anything right now, actually, but I'm going to have to, 'cause, ya know - livin' and sh*t.
People who think everything is a hoax to get Trump out are pretty much brain dead. I mean, I don't think governments aren't incapable of trying to knock each other out and I believe in lying and corrupt govt's. and all, but, a lot of people in the U.S. think they are the only people in the universe who matter and it's really embarrassing.
So, it's a big hoax and if Trump gets voted out, the Dems will just swoop in and fix things and everything will "miraculously" heal itself? Really? People with this mindset really think that's what the Dems are working toward and had it "all planned"? They think democrats want to clean up this mess any more than republicans? Why would they put the whole of the human race at risk and all the economies in the crapper just to get one lying, sh*tty lump out of office? They'll be left with just as much of a fiasco. If "THEY" had this much power they wouldn't need to do it that way. They'd just take control, wouldn't they?
All Trump had to do was be competent and he failed miserably. He would've had the election by a landslide if he pulled everyone together and talked like a leader and gave people hope and told them to be patient, that we would get through this together. He has the nerve to call others "divisive." He encouraged the hoax theory (started it, actually, I think) and pitted everyone against each other, and didn't work with both parties to help with the economy (that's the fault of all those do-nothings-but-still-getting-paid in office on both sides), and gave out ridiculous, nonsense advice. Grrr.
We need to vote out everyone who is currently in office whenever their time is up. Let's make it up for good.
I can't even find the words for everything I'm feeling and thinking right now. The human race is devolving, I'm sure of it. I notice when I check my email, that Yahoo articles have taken off the ability to add comments. It was getting that bad.
Aaargh. I can't even.

Afgncaap 5: I also hope your sister is okay. She was! The bad news now, though: our gaming group decided to take the risk of going to a wedding for one of our fellows, and a married couple in our group have both tested positive now, so now everyone who was "at our table" has to get tested. One person already got the test results back despite us only learning about it today and he's clear, though, so it's a remote possibility that the two people who got it got it after the wedding. Even so, though, now my sister and I are freakin' out that we might have it. And that's totally fair. This is an incredibly stressful time, and there are a lot of people in the world who seem dead-set on making sure that it stays this way for as long as possible. Having said that, if we ignore the United States I think the human race is actually doing pretty well on the COVID front. I think we'll get through this as a species. It may take a few lustrums to get our heads on right again, and a lotta trouble during them I'm sure, but I do think in the end we'll recover.

I read that there are spikes in cases in Spain because people were getting too complacent and starting to go on trips, and gather in too-large groups and such and now places in Spain may have to lock down again.
People are too impatient in this day and age. They want that instant gratification and think they can just will something away because they are inconvenienced. News flash: That's not how the natural world works, folks.
I also read that Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson and his wife and kids tested positive.
Life is still not normal and people are going to have to realize this.

Yep. And sometimes it's not even about patience so much as it's about urgency. Like, a couple weeks ago, some friends of my gaming group got married. They were taking an incredible amount of precautions (like, so much so that the wedding venue even told them "You know if you have music, the odds of people not dancing are basically zero, right?") but even so there was kind of a sense of "Do we actually want to have/go to a big wedding?"
Ultimately, yes, a wedding event happened, and it's not like there'd be a do-over, so my sister and I (and most of our gaming group) went.
Then one person at our table told us that they'd come down with the Coronavirus, so every single one of us at the table got tested. Fortunately, not one of us (apart from the couple who warned us) had it.
It was a risk, but I'm glad I took it. Still... I might've gotten the coronavirus from going, and that's a sobering thought.
