There's also people who actually missed the previous KS or regretted not contributing for whatever reason the first time around when they had the chance.

As of right now, 2,124 are new out of 14,313 or about 15%. I'm guessing a lot of these are people who found the show trough Netflix and want it to continue. Interesting data, and that's a very good guess. Another possibility for some of them could just be old backers who have totally misplaced their KS data from six years ago, or just thought it was easier, and so just started a new account for this new KS.

Has anyone given any thought to the fact that maybe the new episodes, or at least the first few, might be produced by having most people work in isolation or small groups and then patching the finished product together in post, like the MIGIZI shorts were produced? Joel dropped a hint about this in the A/V Club article:
JH: "We have to plan this to do it all remotely. We did experiment with that when we did the MIGIZI shorts. That was kind of our first test to see if we would lose anything in translation. And most people didn’t seem to notice or even think about it. I’m kind of astonished how flexible MST is—that we can kind of even look at it this way and break it apart and record each person separately. It’s not going to be a Zoom meeting. We have some conceits that make sense out of [the remote recording]—you’re on the moon, we do a lot of stuff in spacesuits, right?"
So the audio tracks might be recorded separately and then synced together with a silhouette that's digitally manipulated, like the strange movements of the silhouettes entering and leaving the theater during the MIGIZI and the Emily Turkey Day short that some of us did actually notice. The audio tracks on those had different qualities, too. Expect a lot of green screen and synced audio in host segments, too, if any of these new episodes come out later this year or early next. The Kickstarter video had Nate and Conor puppeteering the Circus Tour versions of Crow and Servo in their possession that they used for the livestreams and Turkey Day last year, with Baron and Hampton's vocal tracks synced in.
Honest, I'm not trying to be negative by bringing this up, I just haven't seen anyone else discuss this possibility anywhere. Would it still cost $350,000 an episode if a couple of them had to be made not in an actual studio with all the technical and support people on site at one time?

In theory, the remote recording might make things more expensive, not less so. If they want everyone being recorded to have professional audio equipment, it either means buying it for them, sending it to them, or renting out a local studio for them to record there.
Then there would probably be more post-production work, editing it all together.
If they’re recording this summer, I expect everyone who wants to have been vaxxed will be. But I know Baron, Felicia and Patton have young (under 18) kids at home, and who knows when vaccines will be approved for kids.
I noticed that mention as well, and wasn’t thrilled about it.

The riffing was already being done mostly the post-production. That's nothing new there. I was looking forward to and hoping it was going to be corrected, of course, so that's a big disappointment. The question is for host segments. So is Jonah going to be wearing a spacesuit the entire time and they green screen his face into it?
You would think with the virus starting to wane and people starting to get fully vaccinated they would wait a few months maybe to start production until their entire staff could be cleared to shoot and write and what not all at the same time. Which you think would not be very far off. Joel raising the spectre of this sounds a whole lot like Joel getting a fun idea to fix a problem that's not really necessary to fix. And may never fully come to pass. Par for the course for Joel.
All in all, a totally remotely shot show lowers my expectations and willingness to help fund this endeavor. But again I fully anticipate Joel to make the production methods clearer sometime soon...hopefully. Because that...that doesn't sound optimal.

True, but on the other hand, there's likely to be a percentage of that 85 percent who didn't back the original Kickstarter but have backed other campaigns in the past.

Day 5
Money 2015: 65,226 2021: 71,696
Backers 2015: 727 2021: 501
In 2015, we were on the first of a two day lull leading up to the announcement of Jonah as the host. I’ll be curious if Joel has something up his sleeve for this week to build some buzz.

I’ll be curious if Joel has something up his sleeve for this week to build some buzz. Armchair quarterbacking of course, but if it was MY Kickstarter and I wanted to raise 5.5 Million dollars, I'd have planned, and created in advance, to have a content update every single day, along with frequent Q&A updates as needed. If my team wasn't creative enough to come up with daily content (videos, interviews, behind the scenes stuff, upcoming ideas, etc, etc), I think it would feel kind of lazy. Of course, that's what MY Kickstarter would have. As we know, Joel can do as he pleases.

Joel announced Jonah as host on the 7th day of the first KS. Then another lull period. Then the Felicia and Patton stuff at the end of week 2, beginning of week 3. With more daily updates and cameo stuff increasing in the final 2 weeks. They're following the same playbook so far. But I can't imagine naming Emily or whoever on the 7th day this time will generate much buzz. We'll see.

I agree that Emily wouldn't be very buzzy. I wonder if it might be someone like Bill Corbett (I could see that being an Observer silhouette. Bill being involved with the Migizi shorts may have reopened that door for him, and looking back at some his comments during the season 11 Kickstarter, he seemed to be the most upset out of the Rifftrax trio about not being involved.
Similarly, maybe J Elvis is returning on a more regular basis. He would be a strong addition to the writing staff.
