Since the Kickstarter just launched, I figured we'd need a separate thread so people don't have to dig through a half dozen pages.
As of writing, there are 184 backers for ~$46k

How the money gets spent:
1. Without a network supporting us, we need to fund everything ourselves. During our first Kickstarter, we estimated that, once production was up and running, we'd be able to produce new episodes for about $250K each. In the end, though, the budget for each new episode ended up being closer to $350K. For the last two seasons, we were able to cover the difference through our deal with Netflix... but this time, we're on our own. We've got a lot of ways we can keep the budget lower, but, you know... it's still going to cost something. And when you think about it, $350K for 90 minutes of television is still one of the best deals in show business.
2. We still can't spend everything we raise on Kickstarter to make the show.
Campaign Fees: Between Kickstarter and the credit card processor, we pay about 8% of your pledge in fees. There's also a fee for CrowdOx, the platform we'll use to manage all of your surveys and rewards after the campaign ends.
Making Rewards: We reserve about 20% of your pledge in order to design, produce, print, sort and pack all of your rewards. And that's not even including shipping, which we're not collecting until after our Kickstarter campaign ends!
Dedicated Support: During our first Kickstarter, we underestimated the amount of work involved in providing customer support and creating detailed backer updates, so we had to depend on volunteers to do a lot of it. This time, we want to make sure we're prepared, so we budgeted about 4% of each pledge for that.
Building & Running The Gizmoplex: We really want The Gizmoplex to be great, but getting it started will take some work – and keeping it running also means we'll have some monthly fees to cover. We also need some budget to support all of the special live events we're planning to host. So, we're using about 3% of your pledge for that.
When you put it all together, we have to spend about 35% of what we raise just to cover Kickstarter expenses, and to keep all the promises we're making to you.

Cool, new thread, I'll repost over here:
$100 for a year pass. So, 9 bucks a month for a streaming service with one show.
I'll be interested to see if this makes any money.
( I'd also just like to say, reguardless of what happens to MST3K 2.5ish -- I'm excited for new stuff to talk about here on the old boards. yay! )

I was thinking max 25 bucks, and even that won't get me in to see a single episode.

This is way, way too expensive. To get in at the ground floor. 35 bucks for a 3 month pass to a service they haven't said how often an episode is uploaded. It could be as few as 1 or as many as 3. And they haven't said how much a subscription is for the walk-uo customer who didn't get in via Kickstarter.
Its 250 bucks for a DVD box set.

I was thinking max 25 bucks, and even that won't get me in to see a single episode. Yes, I was willing to put in 10-20, maybe even 30 if it got me most of this first season... BTW, is there any mention of ep downloads or is he going all in on this streaming service?

This is way, way too expensive. Yes. So, they're at $200K already, but that is obviously the die hard MSTies who will pay for anything including the $1000 rewards packages. I really can't imagine that number isn't going to level off and maybe even drop (when people come back and cancel their $3000 pledges next week)... I mean it's just simple math right. If all this interest was out there, NetFlix probably wouldn't have cancelled it. Joel pretty much showed that he couldn't handle the big budget, and now he's trying to go even bigger....

Ah, so you do get all the eps. That's something. This is kind of like last time, where the price was a little high if they had only covered 3 or 6 eps, but ended up working out when they got to 14.
Still though, I was willing to pay $8-$10 and ep last time around. I'm not sure I am this time.
Does anyone remember (or wanna look up) how much it was last time to get in at the level of getting all the eps?

It cost 35 to get a digital download of 1101. It cost 85 to get digital downloads of all the episodes.
This is notably more expensive.

That right there is the most I've laughed at anything to do with new MST3K. Sure, Joel, sure. From what I remember, Joel wanted the cast of the last tour to be their own thing. So I presume he will develop 1-2 shows and then send them on their way with Emily and the tour cast operating separate from the TV show cast.

They've currently surpassed 500k. The first day of the first KS was north of 800k. Avg pledge is north of 200 bucks.
