That Gamera movie better be one of the Joel episodes. i like my continuity I'd rather see Joel do Demon Squad and Jonah or Emily do Gamera. Mix things up a bit.

Equinox would add another film to get both the Criterion and MST3K treatment

I’m guessing if the Gamera film kicks off the season, it’ll be Jonah’s crew. If the show is going to try to do any sort of continuity at all.
Honestly, I don’t mind if they don’t care about continuity.
I’m just stoked for the film choice. Maybe we’ll get some more Gamera films!
(Although, I’m that last update did Joel say the “classic ep packs” contained all the Gamera films? I thought it was just two?)

I mean Mac and Me was still a bit too obvious a movie choice though, maybe not the kind of low hanging fruit on the level of something like Sharknado, but maybe more on the level of something like Howard the Duck. the mac and me episode is better than most of your fav episodes. 'too obvious a choice'.. I have heard this a lot... why? what criteria makes it 'too obvious a choice'... please name the criteria in detail.

It's too obvious a choice to me in that it, like Plan 9 or The Room, has become well-known as a notorious bad movie among the general public, not only from the ongoing Paul Rudd thing but from many other pop culture outlets and critics tackling it over the long years. I feel there's little left to take the piss out of re: the film that hasn't been joked about already ad nauseam by so many others. I prefer when MST is setting the trends and finding the bad films few know of, not going after stuff everyone's had a go at. I loved the Netflix seasons, but I felt it was a rare misstep. You don't have to agree, but I have no need to justify it further.

That's entirely subjective, and there's no need for you to try and invalidate their favorite episodes. And yeah, I agree with other users when it comes to the show using more obscure movies. Give me something that I haven't already seen before.

I reject the idea that MST3K has to play to obscurity within the niche of people who like bad movies. Funny people riffing bad movies is the show.. not funny people riffing only movies that no one who watches the show has heard of.. it 2021 and we all have the internet. I had seen plenty of MST3K films before they were on the show.

I didn't say they had to only play to complete obscurity. I said I just generally don't need them to do movies that have become considerably well-known and therefore have been picked clean for jokes by the public at large. RiffTrax is IMO the first and worst offender at this, though their business model has made it very profitable for them. I think it's a creative mistake, I prefer when they do less overexposed films, and I wasn't thrilled to see MST do it.
Mac & Me wasn't a bad episode, it's just not a choice I loved. It's a personal taste thing, it's not that serious and you don't have to cape for them on every single thing and challenge every single subjective statement someone else makes, considering I wholeheartedly supported and enjoyed both the Netflix seasons and the current revival effort. I happen to think there's plenty of snobbery and gatekeeping in the fandom (especially, ironically enough, from people who often seem to only have fully begun watching in the Sci-Fi years), but they're not going to cancel the new show because not everyone loves every single choice. Chill.
