Haven't had a chance to finish the episode, but I'm about 2/3 of the way through. Had some social engagements this week that involved alcohol, so by the time I got home and started watching I was already a little sleepy, and now we've got a visiting writer on campus who I'm in charge of shepherding around, so I just haven't had the time.
I've been enjoying the episode though. Looking forward to finishing it and the after show, and then finding some time next weekend to watch it straight through. Not sure I can comment on the quality at the moment since I've been watching it in half-drunk chunks, but it's definitely pulled some good laughs out of me so far (one unexpected, the group's "OHHHHHHHH" after someone says the word "unbelievable" (in reference to that oh so irritating song from the late 80s/early 90s) got me good--an obvious joke, maybe, that got its power from the enthusiastic delivery).

The invention exchange really felt like an old school Joel invention exchange segment.

I've been dealing with hurricane aftermath, I'll get around to watching this weekend or Friday, probably. Aw man…I’m sorry you’re going through that. Wishing you the best. FWIW, I think you have a good episode on deck for when you are able to get to it. I know you’re a tough critic….and while I’m a little more forgiving I think,I can’t say I’ve been in love with the season. It’s been uneven, for sure. But I had a great time with The Shape of Things to Come, and it could very well be my favorite episode of the season so far. (Munchie might be a close runner up, but this beat it.) It’s a solid movie choice that feels like it would have been at home in the original series run. The riffing is fairly consistent, and had me bursting out laughing multiple times in between plenty of belly laughs. The host segments were….okay. Probably the weaker part of the ep, but not the worst host segs, either. I also find that I’m enjoying the Emily-Connor-Kelsey host configuration the most of all of them. I know we’ve only seen Joel once, and I wasn’t really fond of The Batwoman (more a riff-writing issue than riffer issue), but the Emily group just seems to have a more natural chemistry and manages to feel less scripted. Anyway, I hope things get back to normal for you soon, and that this episode gives you a much-needed reprieve from having to deal with all that.

Ok, finally sitting down to watch this. I will say before starting, I've seen the Rifftrax version of this movie, and...I don't remember much of it. So I know the movie isn't terribly memorable. We'll see how it goes.

I'll do this as a running commentary.
Pretty good inventions from Emily and the Mads.
Seems like mostly smile-worthy stuff again.
Smile-worthy lines: "Moon Pattern Baldness" "American Gothic: The Next Generation" "All Freakzoid robots report to the dancefloor" "How do we handle this emergency?""Punt"
Pretty...dry riffing up to Host Segment 1. Not sure what's happening in the movie, which makes my attention wane a bit.
Segment 2 is one note. And for a concept that should be FULL of jokes. None of them work. Though GPC dressed as Phyllis Diller is funny. But her bit isn't. And it keeps going...
"Set course for up" "Attention all personell..." "Wimpy, wimpy, wimpy! Hefty, hefty, hefty!"
I'm not familiar with true crime podcasts, so Segment 3 is...uh...a blank for me. And it kept going...
"Jim Henson's Sniper Babies" "Visit scenic Mt. Palance"
Segment 4's discussion of love is nice, kind of reminds me of an old Joel sketch. And MAYBE provides us just the TEENSIEST bit of incite into Emily, who so far has been a total blank slate. And it didn't last too long!
"Invisible beer?" - This got the first big laugh out of me! "I've locked in freshness" "Weekend at Bernies 6: The Legend of Curly's Gold" "Mommy watch me!" - Another big laugh "I must go now" "My planet needs me"
No George C Scott references to Palance's "Turn it off!" bit? Really?
Segment 5, the Palance impression is cute. And I actually laughed when Crow totally stopped.
Another perfectly FINE episode. Acceptable. Nothing more than fine, but...yeah MORE of the same. Better than Batwoman. About the same as Sumuru. Maybe a few more smile-worthy riffs. Host segments were ok on average. But, yeah, C+/B- again. More to the B- side. Kinda...kinda...*shrug*
This last half of the season hasn't been BAD but its sure been...consistent, if anything. The episodes aren't great, or anywhere near as good as anything in the first half, just...one mildly ok episode after another. Getting kinda...dull. Really need a VERY GOOD episode in the last few episodes to save this last half.
