Having recently made it through all of Season Zero (and FINALLY being able to say that I've seen every MST3K episode ever recorded ), I have to say...they're really not all that bad! Ok, the Sandy Frank films were a bit of a chore to sit through, ESPECIALLY the Gamera episodes, where entire minutes passed with not a single riff or comment. (Worse, the films are unedited, unlike their later Season 3 treatment, but still as confusing as ever!) But, nearly all of the KTMA-exclusive episodes were actually a lot of fun cheesy films on their own (especially Phase IV, SST Death Flight, Superdome, and City On Fire). And, a lot of mention is made of Servo's early froggie voice, but Gypsy's early voice is deranged! All in all, I was expecting a lot of rough sailing, but the KTMAs were actually quite enjoyable, with some surprisingly top-quality riffing, especially in the later episodes, when it looked like the gang actually watched the film at least more than one time. So, what's everyone else's honest opinion of the KTMA's???

The KTMA's definitely do get better as the season goes on (Josh Elvis Weinstein even admitted that they actually pre-watched the movies later on) and the host segments are usually pretty good throughout all of the KTMA episodes. The only drawback I think the KTMAs have in "watchability" is with the available picture quality of episodes -- even though I have SilverSurfer copies, the low picture quality is pretty hard to deal with.

I haven't seen any episodes from Season 0. I only have to see one of those and one from season 7 to have seen one from each season, which is a big acomplishment for me.

If you just want an idea of what KTMA was like get the Scrapbook Tape from Satilite News. Lot's of clips and of course in perfect quality.

I would, but I don't trust the US Mail system. I've just had too many things lost in the mail...

I haven't seen KTMA yet, so I can't compare, but if you thought Gamera was a chore to sit through when it was on KTMA, you should try it unMSTied. I've done it once, it was pure torture.
No update film trilogy, no matter how respected, could make up for that!

The only KTMA that I've ever seen was Phase IV. Not a bad movie compared to some of the other stuff that they've got. I won't be happy until I've seen K00, though....

I like some of the KTMA stuff. The quality of the episodes is much more dependent on the quality of the movie than in later seasons. I did enjoy SST, City on Fire, and Superdome.
While I find Josh's Dr. Larry particularly grating, he does a terrific job with the ad-libbed theater segments. Another thing that grew on me was Crow's higher-pitched voice. It has its own distinct charm.

The KTMA eps are almost like a parallel universe to the show. Think about it: experiments are used here, but then re-used at a later time with no reference to them. Invention exchanges shown in KTMA pop up again in the national series. Joel's Russian Counterpart isn't necessarily "evil" in KTMA, but he exists.
Part of a fan-fic that I'm working on. Sorry.

I've only seen bits and pieces of the KTMA eps., but what I saw ran circles around what is being shown on the channel now (yes, it's currently our WB affiliate).
Too bad I was too young to work a VCR back in those days.

From what I've heard, the old KTMA days were definitely pretty creative in the late 80s. Not that I've seen anything but the MST episodes from that time, of course, but it all sounded pretty cool.

I've got three so far. And I think they're great. I think the Brains figured they'd get buried and lost and never be seen again so they wouldn't have to worry about anyone ever seeing them or problems with reusing bits later. Luckily there's enough dedicated fans to make sure that never happened. I'd love to see 1 and 2 though. Marionette action is so cool! I only want the KTMA exclusive eps.

I have all the ones that have been found and I must say, after watching them I have a headache. Mostly due to picture and sound but, the jokes a far between at times and sometimes they're not really that funny. There are certain aspects, like Larry, that are funny and I'm glad are there but, I've watched like 2 KTMA's in one night and then been glad to watch a regular episode.
That's just me,
Servo

The KTMA eps can't compare to the ones seen on Comedy Central. I'd say that I thought a few of the KTMAs were better than a fewof the season one's, and I'd take almost any KTMA before Alien From LA, Hellcats or Quest of the Delta Knights (Delta Knights had just as weak riffing as KTMA IMO), but other than those three eps and a select few of Season 1, the KTMAs are nothing compared to the rest. Still interesting to wonder what one's opinion of the KTMAs would be if you hadn't seen the later shows. I'd like to think I would have seen the potential at the time. Obviously some people did or there wouldn't be any tapes.

I have only seen K04 and it was ok. It was definitely a work in progress. I still don't agree that the movies used in K01 and K02 were essentially bad. I have Captain Scarlet (Which was used for K02) and it was a decent show art-wise. Gerry Anderson's marionettes got more realistic in his later shows but K01 is definitely creepy looking (since I have seen Stingray un-msted). ewww!!!
