Very true. If there was no seasons 1-10, and just KTMA, it'd still be one of my favorite shows. Mostly becuase everything else on TV is just crap. LOL, I don't know if I would be a fan if KTMA were the only eps available. I suppose my view would change if they never changed from ad-lib only, since my standards are alot higher.

I agree completely. If I had never seen such classics as "Lost Continent" or "Mitchell", I don't really know what I would have thought about just KTMA style episodes. Sometimes they just weren't funny. It most likely wouldn't be my favorite show. Well, most of us probably would never have heard of it. Servo

I have recently watched Season Zero for the first time.
The episodes seemed longer. Maybe they weren't editing down the movies as much.
There were considerably fewer riffs, although the movies were just as stinky.
I noticed Joel and the bots stepping on each other lines from time to time, but that's probably because it was live.
Ah, the wonders of cable access television.

The thing about KTMAs, Season One, and really most of Season Two is that it's just for fans of bad movies. In my opinion later on anyone that had the intellegence could like MST3K, but in the beginning it was really about campy movies and the MST3K was there to enhance it. I mean every Friday and Saturday night all over the nation there must be dozens of horror host ready to introduce people to a REALLY BAD movie. Obviously most of the KTMA's were shown uncut on KTMA before hand, MST3K was just there to make it a little more fun and make bad movies that were made to be good. To campy movies with some fun commentary.

That's an interesting take, and perhaps not far from the truth.
In an old, old interview with Joel during the KTMA days, he said (and this isn't an exact quote) that he always wanted to host one of those "monster or sci-fi" movie of the week shows (ala, Count Floyd!)
Perhaps that was the original vision, Monster host show with a twist. The focus later changed to where the riffs became the star, the movie was secondary and MST was less monster movie host show and more its own comic entity.
Hmm, you've given me something to ponder Van.

Yeah, the similarities between MST3K and the other "Creature Feature" flicks across the nation are amazing. What seperates the two (and I know that I'm stealing this line from a magazine or something, so don't point it out) is that the hosts of the show can't ever "escape" by ignoring the movie. They suffer for our enjoyment.

If you really want to see all of the available KTMA episodes just go to The Digital Archive Project. It's free and the quality is as good as can be expected. I obtained every non-rhino episode from them.
