Couldn't Comedy Central theoretically show any of these public domain episodes right now? Cause if they could, it would make a great replacement for the movies they show from 3:00-5:00 eastern time every day. Actually, they couldn't because the Sci-Fi Channel has exclusive broadcast rights to the MST3K show for a few more months. (Now, the SFC, of course, *could* show these episodes, but won't.)

Another reason for me to shun Sci-Fi.
It's not like they have anything better to do. What with their Direct to TV and Video marathons on the weekends.

Eh. I don't like a lot of things about the Sci-Fi channel, but they've done some decent stuff in their day.
I personally have loved the (roughly) 5 episodes of "Scare Tactics" that I watched (though the previews for some of the others seem to involve stuff that doesn't look appropriate at all), and I was thankful when they briefly ran that "Exposed" show. I saw a few pretty good films on that one show.

Scare Tactics was OK. I stoped watching after Tremors the Series was canceled (big Tremors fan, so lick me). Used to stick around for it.
I'd watch the original Star Trek if they put it on a decent hour. I usually sleep in on Sundays.

Are any of you experts on copyright laws? I dont' think anybody understands it. I've heard lots of weird, sometimes conflicting things, like they can't release movies with copyrighted songs in them or they can't release the Godzilla movies because somebody has exclusive rights to them. Nobody knows but the lawyers (maybe).

Yes, but keep in mind: there was a recent Congressional hearing where the issue of copyrights was discussed. I think that they allowed copyrights on films to stretch back so far that you have a total of one MSTed short that wasn't affected by it.
Now, the potential owners to the rights of those movies may have chosen not to redeem them (such as in the cases of some Godzilla films, which is just a big mess any way), but the potential for people to claim these rights does, in fact, remain.

Yes, but movies that were already in the public domain, don't lose that status. Only movies that were still under copyrights basically got an extra 15 years before turning public domain. Sort of a grandfather clause that exempts them.

Yeah, which is why there's still a shot for this to work.
Still, I don't expect to see Rhinio release Quest Of The Delta Knights any time soon.

Rhino is a company that produces many other products besides MST3K and doesn't have millions upon millions of dollars to just put into MST3K DVD's. Rhino is a business and tries to please the people but they please base on sales, and it looks like MST3K isn't selling off the shelves. Everyone would love the perfect MST3K set but honestly, has that ever happen? I am not favoring in Rhino not making DVD's, What I do know is that Hollywood and companies of hollywood achieve only mediocrity.
