IMO, John Agar is the best monster in a monster film. Ever hear the song "John Agar Rules" by the Dead Elvi?

I have seen all the Gameras except Zigra and I still like the original Gamera. It had the best lines IMHO.

But aren't we forgetting the monster in "Monster A Go-Go"?
Oh, wait....I guess we have to....

I'll second that Ator. MST should have done a few more John Agar movies, the two they did do were really great.

Which was the second? I know not the Sci-Fi era. Women Of The Prehistoric Planet was great, though - a Season One highlight. He's CLEARLY drunk throughout almost the entire film! It's unbelievable! I mean, how did he manage to slur EVERY single line he said? Kinda like Christopher Hitchens, except without the charisma and intelligence.
BTW, anybody want to clarify the mix-up with that episode? It was clearly filmed last of the season (they make a reference to The Black Scorpion episode), but was it also WRITTEN last? The riffing seems to be much more akin to the pretty good late season efforts than the nearly-unbearable early season stuff.

Oh, definitely. I don't really have much to base that on, but from every description of the writing process that I've heard, they took episodes one at a time. I'm pretty sure that they just mislabelled the experiment early on and never got around to fixing it until it was well labelled.

The Gamera movies from what I've seen are the funniest I've seen. Gamera is incredibly cheesey, Gamera vs. Guiron is even more cheesey. They also produce some hilarious host segments.
Gamera is really neat Gamera is made of turtle meat We've been eating Gamera

I actually had a bite of turtle soup when I was a kid. My dad bought a can and pretended to like it just to get me and my brother to try it. Then we all spit it out. Don't try it unless it's genuine Gamera.

I just watched G vs Barugon and it occurred to me that this is the only one that doesn't revolve around a kid. No Kenny, Itchy, Akio, Tom or Tomoko. Could it be this one was actually intended for adults?

Gamera was my favorite monster as a child. My favorite Gamera film was never actually MST'd though. Gamera gets frozen in the sea, and the kids get shrunk in a small submarine to go into his body to help him out. And there's a scene where the scientists are watching a film of an elephant's trunk being cut open and a bunch of worms are in it. Creepy, but I loved that one. My favorite MST Gamera is Gamera vs. Guiron.

Wasn't that bit in Gamera vs Guiron when the evil lady aliens do a flashback of Gamera?

Could it be this one was actually intended for adults? Gamera vs. Barugon is also the movie that connects the "bad" Gamera, destroyer of every miniature in Japan, to the "good" Gamera, defender of Japan from other Monsters and, later, friend to all children. I wouldn't say it was aimed at adults per se, more so that it was the last one (of the original series) that wasn't aimed just at kids. And also on the Gamera front, I recently picked up on a cheap Public Domain DVD the original American release of the first film, called here Gammera, the Invincible, that besides adding another "M" to the turtle's name, also is noticably less cheesy than the Sandy Frank version of this same movie due to better dubbing and not calling the kid Kenny (he's called Toschio, his name in the Japanese original). It also has different actors in the added scenes of American characters and actually makes a bit more sense plotwise.

Off-hand remark showing how much of a Godzilla geek I am: Just like Ghidrah, the Three Headed Monster did the same for Godzilla.

What I know of it, it was the last episode filmed but the 4th episode broadcast. I imagin it was written last as well, from interviews they indicate that they didn't have a lot of time to work on these things. So I would think writing and filming would be done sequentially. BTW: Sources show it was first aired on Dec 9 1989. (Yes, there are folks out their who have worked hard to try and compile broadcast schedules, I didn't do the research myself). Crawling Eye made its debut on 11/18, Aztec Mummy on 11/25, Mad Monster on 12/2 with Prehistoric Planet shown a week later, 12/9/. and now back to your regularly scheduled Gamera!
