I have been watching MST3K constantly for the past 5 months now and I have noticed some cool stuff only I would know and people living in Madison, WI. Let me make it clear first about the connection, Jim Mallon and Kevin Murphy went to UW-Madison in the late 70's. Now the things I have noticed, through the SFC era mostly I have heard some references to Madison that make the show that much more fun to me. Like in Revenge of the Creature when they are using searchlights to find the creature and they leave, Tom says: Well better get this back to A to Z Rent-All. A to Z Rent-All is a local business in town that rents out many machines and such (I know my Dad worked there). And in 813 Jack Frost the little imp is talking to the bear prince and Crow says something something Plaza Burger. The Plaza Tavern has a mean burger called the "Plaza Burger" and has been around for ages. Also mentioned in numerous ep. is the Beltline. The Beltline is a long stretch of road that curves around madison so it makes it faster to get to the other side of the city. These references could mean different to other people but the chances are real good that they are referencing Madison landmarks.

Thanks Bob, I'm in California and didn't know any of this. Now I can appear to be smarter.

You're probably right about that. MST3K isn't afraid of tossing in somewhat obscure references to their own personal experiences, etc.

Interesting.....I'll never forget hearing one of the Bots riff something about the "corner of Franklin and Blaisdell"- a street corner one block away from the craptacluar apartment I was watching from here in Minneapolis. wow what a story. might've been better if I emembered which ep. It would be really impressive if someone knew.

I have a question BobJ -
Dees, or Deece I guess you pronounce it - what the hell is that? I figured it was something highschool guys in Wisconsin say.
Also, Crow says at one point someone's doing "shitties" on the lawn - I don't remember the ep, and someone was squealing their car. It was asked on another bboard, but we never got an answer. Again, I thought this was just Wisconsin highschool speak.

I think what you are talking about is slang from the 70's or 80's. I never heard of these words. Highschool guys in Wisconsin just mimic slang they hear on TV or in Movies.
