We've all laughed at Cave Dwellers, but what about the other Ator movies? I hear they're just as bad. It makes you wonder about why they weren't able to purchase the rights to some of these movies, especially when they already did one of them. To bad, if they turned out like Cave Dwellers, they all could have made great episodes.
Then there's Godzilla, while Godzilla vs. Megalon and Godzilla vs. the Sea Monster are amung my least favorites, there's one that I like even less, and that would be Godzilla's Revenge. It would have been interesting for them to do King Kong vs. Godzilla as well.
Same goes for Gamera. Why not use what many people to believe to be the very worst of the bunch, Gamera Super Monster?
And Revenge of the Creature, too. While Creature from the Black Lagoon is a classic, why did they never do the other sequel, the Creature Walks Amung Us? Especially since many of the movies at the begining of 8 were Universal, it shouldn't have been hard to get.
I know many of these could be put down as rights problems, but it makes you wonder how good an episode one of these might of made.

And what about the first "Gor" movie?
Oh and "Losing", have you seen Pierces "Norseman" with Lee Majors? When I was a kid I thought it was soooo cool.

Cave Dwellers were owned by Film Ventures International who didn't mind them riffing their version of the film, the original owner may still dislike the idea of their Ator movies being riffed.
They only did Gamera movies released by Sandy Frank. Sandy Frank didn't do other Gamera movies. They only remembered Sandy Frank from KTMA and didn't get the other rights.
Godzilla vs. Megalon was public domain, Godzilla vs. Sea Monster was another Film Ventures International release. Although Son of Godzilla & Gigantis, the firemonster were both public domain which makes you wonder why they didn't do those.
Another confusing one is Revenge of the Creature since they did those Universal films.

By the way what were the other episodes done in the beginning of the eight season that were Universal. This again makes me wonder why they didn't do Xanadu if they got the rights to other Universals AND it fits into the genre of fantasy therefore it could fit into the new Sci-Fi restrictions. It's also 93 minutes long the legnth of a MST3K episode without commercials so with some cuts it would fit. Plus it's a classic cheesy dumb movie. WHY?

By the way what were the other episodes done in the beginning of the eight season that were Universal. I think the first few of them. I only have Mole People and Deadly Mantis on tape though. I'm pretty sure Leech Woman was too. I don't remember but Giant Spider Invasion might have been also. So I think maybe the first 10 episodes. Maybe less. Ask someone who has more season 8 episodes than I have.

And what about the first "Gor" movie? Oh and "Losing", have you seen Pierces "Norseman" with Lee Majors? When I was a kid I thought it was soooo cool. You were an incredibly strange kid MJ...Norseman is one of my favorites...bad movie favs that is...I saw it when it first came out in theatres with a friend and we thought it so silly we started riffing (something church mouse me wouldn't usually do--says a lot about the Norseman) and really pissed off some guy sitting in front of us. The good news is I own this on Vhs...Amazon.com released their very own special copy of this and you can get it there...it's so wonderfully goofy. Maybe not as bad as most bad movies but defin. Mstkable. I'm going to quip it for my wife in the future and in preparing have seen it now about eight times. Brain damage control may be needed. for folks who don't know: it has Pierce's son--a younger but just as skinny version as in Boggy Creek. Pierce Sr. narrates the film (pseudonymously in credits) You can watch a viking get killed by being shot by arrows in the ass. No kidding. Jack Elam plays a wizard and everyone claims to never have seen his face...despite everyone clearly being able to see his face! Lee Majors runs in slow motion, a lot. Crenshaw from BC plays a viking... The Indians are the bad guys...yeah, right! Occording to this film, it's the Indians who introduced vodka to the northern europeans...yeah, right Indian maidens wore mini-skirts Viking shields bend like trash cans! See it for yourself...it's great! Yeah, right...
