I believe Rhino has released 24 episodes and I don't think anyone is completely happy with the selection. So I was thinking what if you had to pick 24 eps to survive in a time capsule or shoot into space for aliens to find or some hypothetical thing. Not necessarily your personal favorites but the one's that best represent the run of the show. It would be nice if we could come up with a definitive list but with all the various opinions here I don't know if that's possible. Here's a few starters. 201- Rocketship X-M Several firsts. The new set, the hexfield viewscreen, Tom's new voice. 424- Manos Love it or hate it, it is a memorable ep.And without it no one would get the later Torgo references. 512- Mitchell 513- The Brain That Wouldn't Die Obvious. Joel's last, Mike's first. 706- Laserblast Gotta have the last CC. 1001- Soultaker The return of Joel and TV"s Frank 1013- Diabolik Self explanatory. Well those are pretty obvious and I think hard to argue with but there's room for more. What eps do you think are ESSENTIAL and why?

301 - Cave Dwellers 303 - Pod People 820 - Space Mutiny 910 - The Final Sacrafice Right after Comedy Central signed the show to a 3-season 24-episode deal, 301 and 303 seem to represent the early fertile ground of the show. The constant dead-on riffing in these 2 episodes really paved the way for the cult status of this television show (as the 3rd season as a whole did, but it's most apparent in these 2 episodes).
The main focus of my choices seem to be consistent dead-on riffing, and it would be hard to argue that the 2 golden moments in the Sci-Fi era would be anything else other than Space Mutiny and The Final Sacrafice.
Another staple of these episodes are characters to be put alongside Torgo - Trumpy, Ator, Big McLargeHuge, and Rowsdower.

Not much action so far for the 24 Time Capsule Essentials. 201- Rocketship X-M 301- Cave Dwellers 303- Pod People 424- Manos 512- Mitchell 513- The Brain That Wouldn't Die 706- Laserblast 820- Space Mutiny 910- The Final Sacrafice 1013- Diabolik Still room for more. I know this isn't easy. You have to transend your prsonal favorites and think about posterity.

Well if you don't mind me adding some more, I would love to give a few more that I think should be thrown in your little capsule.
321 - Santa Claus Conquers the Martians 521 - Santa Claus 619 - Red Zone Cuba 624 - Samson Vs. The Vampire Women
The first 2 are very beloved among the fan community as the holiday extravaganzas that feature theologically incomprehensible and very very very strange films. One served with Joel, and one served with Mike.
Coleman Francis is a man who's had his many talents displayed in a trilogy of films on MST3K, and Red Zone Cuba is arguably the crowning jewel of them all. Jump-cuts and a plotless storyline leave Mike and the bots being hit the hardest since the revered Manos.
Samson Vs. The Vampire Women features the first for MST3K, a Mexican wrestling film! Featuring the immediately hysterical upon entrance, El Santo. This episode is also historical as it is the tear-jerking departure of the much beloved TV's Frank.
So throw these in dat dere capsule of yours, if you please.....

Good call on 624. I thinkng if it's down to 24 eps just one Santa show might be allowed. Also maybe just one Coleman and I might prefer The Skydivers. That could be open for argument. At least I hope so.

If we're listing 201, we might want to also include 104-The Black Scorpion, just so that the line "What happened to Dr. Eardhardt?" makes sense. After all, if we wanna be definitive, might as well go the whole way.
Oh, and even though I've not yet seen it, I'd toss in 901 just so that you get the transition from space odyssey to castle-bound down correctly.

I still haven't seen much of seasom one but I suppose at least one should be included to tell the whole stiry. I doubt that the KTMA's would be considered essential though.

Well, for me, some of my essential eps would be....
410-Hercules against the Moon Men-the Deep Hurting sketch is hilarious
416-Fire Maidens of Outer Space-TIMMY!!!!
513-Mitchell-Joel's last ep, cmon!!
903-Pumaman-Pumaman, he flies like a moron.
Well, that's four of my essentials, maybe I'll think of a few more later on.

Here's a prospective list in progress. I added 611- Last Of The Wild Horses Not only a funny movie but essential for the Star Trek "Mirror Mirror" host segments. I think one of the best thematic host segs of the series. 1 113-The Black Scorpion (or another season 1) 2 201- Rocketship X-M 3 301- Cave Dwellers 4 303- Pod People 5 416- Fire Maidens of Outer Space 6 424- Manos 7 512- Mitchell 8 513- The Brain That Wouldn't Die 9 611- Last Of The Wild Horses 10 624 -Samson Vs. The Vampire Women 11 706- Laserblast 12 820- Space Mutiny 13 910- The Final Sacrafice 14 1013- Diabolik
