I dunno. Curb Your Enthusiasm and Sex and the City are IMO two of the worst shows ever. And Carnival was extremely overrated. Maybe your right I just heard good things about them. But Larry Sanders is definately one of the greatest shows of all time. Also another thing is with HBO's deep pocket's they probably could have afforded more movies and wouldn't have been picky about rights issues since they weren't just a comedy network.

When NBC canceled SCTV it got picked up on Cinemax for a while. So there is precedent for a network show to go to a pay cable network. MST going to HBO now? Well, not likely but a nice thought.

How do you think the show would have turned out? Cancelled after one season or still airing today. HBO seemed to like the more intellegent shows and MST3K fit into that category. Also Joel was a veteran of the HBO comedy specials. Do you think they would have continued airing the show, would the show gotten better recognition like Sex in the City and The Larry Sanders Show? Would they have done more sleazy explotation films because of looser network restrictions. I think the show would have lasted a couple years longer with HBO. I don't know if it would still be on today it seemed by about the tenth season they were ready to leave anyway so they probably would have left at that time anyway. I don't know I always think they liked the challange of having to write with certain langauge guidlines. It seems that every time I couldn't think of a good riff when watching it with my g/f ialso defualt to something crude or with profainity and it fells like a bit of a cop-out.

Yeah, Mr. Show is awesome. gfanikf and I were simply looking for some comedy show and came across it at the video store.
I don't know if it would be better had MST3K been on HBO. On the one hand, they could get a lot more jokes in that were censored on Comedy Central and SciFi. However, I do not get HBO (premium channel...don't have the extra cash), so if it were on HBO, I'd probably never see it.

I have to agree with Jesle (which is always a good idea ;D) That I like the fact that we could always see MST3K on the sci-fi channel even up at college since it wasn't a premium channel

The Sci-Fi channel has ways of killing shows it gets it's hands on. I'm waiting for the day that the Sci-Fi channel has a telethon and holds Stargate SG-1 hostage while begging for money from viewers. If MST3K had been on HBO (the cash cow), it would have had a much wider array of movies to make episodes out of, but that doesn't necessarily mean that it would have had to insert profanity every other sentence. Maybe some network executive some where will recognize the brilliance of the show and try to bring it back.

I gotta say, I hope MST never comes back and I DEFINITELY HOPE NOT HBO if it did.
MST worked so well becasue it was a small, far from Hollywood production. If they tried to modern it up or make it "high concept" it would lose the charm.
Lets all enjoy watching and rewatching the 10 brilliant seasons we have, call it treasure and call it a day.
Push the button, Frank...
