Prior to my heading out on vacation, my computer was stricken by a virus. So says the computer repair folks. Anyway, their "repair" resulted in the loss of all saved emails and email addresses. Not to mention many of my programs.
So.... anyone that had been corresponding with me and is waiting for a response needs to contact me again.
To our computer experts out there: Typically does repair of a virus infected computer result in such losses? I have had people tell me that this should not have happened.

sounds to me you were the victim of some guys who had no idea where the virus was and just started deleting things until they got it right. Virus's do not infect emails, just applications (thats why you dont open strange attachments, unless for some reason your email program is/was a virus.
but who knows, I could be crazy.

A computer virus also struck my friend! Maybe you could get a new computer.

Some viruses, such as this horrible "netsky" epidemic, are transmitted via e-mail.
Some viruses, when they attach themselves to a program or document, will cause corruption and the file will have to be deleted. Do you know which virus you got?

No idea which virus. My computer initially started out having problems starting up Windows. Took 2-3 trys to get it going. Eventually it wouldn't start at all. Just went to a black screen.
The repair guy could have been a character in "Fast Times at Ridgemont High." Not saying there is anything wrong with that. I could have been one myself, back in the day.
I have just been influenced by a number of folks who say "virus" is the computer store catch-all for problems they are unsure how to solve.
