What about a Monty Python DVD of some kind?
I personally like Kevin Smith movies, so maybe you could check out Clerks or Dogma. They're kind of offensive though.

I recommend tracking down the DVD of "The Great Race." It's a Peter Sellers film, so you will either love it or hate it. If the latter, you can always sell it on eBay!

They also had a really good song in it, when they are running out of the funeral home: Bad Religion's "Leaders and Followers"

Clerks and Dogma are Smith's best! 37?!?! ;D But if you buy Dogma, make sure you get the special edition not that bare bones one. Smith provides the best commentarys ever (well, besides the Evil Dead II and Simpsons commentaries but those were complete home runs). Movie's I want are Terminator 3 and X2. I'd also like some of the Child's Play movies seeing how I just watched them again for the first time in a long time about a month ago. I still really enjoyed them. I just wish MGM released the original in widescreen.

Forrest, it depends on what types of movies you're looking for. Comedy, drama, epics, classics, etc. For my money, any title in the Criterion Catalog of DVDs is exceptional. They specialize in foreign and/or black and white, though. So if that's not your thing, then...maybe the Simpsons season 3 would be for you. If you are interested, however, I would heartily recommend either The Third Man or The Seven Samurai. Cinema classics done right on DVD.

Ahh the classics then.
You have to try a Hitchcock, "North by Northwest" is my personal favorite but "Strangers on a Train" would be another good one to try.
There is a Kurosawa box set that has Seven Samurai, Yojimbo and Sanjuro (and one other I beleive), all great films. It helps to understand some Japanese history and perhaps the commentary helps with these. There are scenes that can feel overwrought or melodramatic for Americans not familiar with the culture.
Try a Preston Sturges, if "Sullivans Travels" is on DVD I'd get that one.
And Buster Keaton is the best of the silent stars IMO. The General, Sherlock Jr are both musts for any cinefile worth his salt.

Well, I just got the Manos DVD in the mail a couple of days ago. (Not the MST version, but the real, pain-filled uncut version.) Of course, that's not a good movie, so I'm hopelessly off topic at this point... ;D

They gave Armageddon a god damn release! What's next? Charlie's Angles? If we're talking classics, you can't go wrong with the Planet of the Apes collection. Well, I guess that depends if you liked the sequels or not, I loved them all personally.

Okay, this one will be on-topic I have some of the DVDs mentioned above: Citizen Kane: excellent DVD, with an excellent documentary on the making of the film and a truly great commentary from Roger Ebert (the one thing he's still good at). Amadeus: Director's Cut: I still think the shorter cut is better overall, but this is an interested extended version of the movie with a few of the additions really helping the movie in some areas. The extras, though, are a disappointing lot. As for the films from Criterion like Seven Samurai, I whole-heartedly recommend any of their discs (except for that inexplicable Armaggedon disc they released, that is). Also look for the Charlie Chaplin Collection, Vol 1 that has three of the greatest movies he ever made (both versions of The Gold Rush, Modern Times, The Great Dictator) and one of his lesser films, Limelight (though it has some devoted fans) The Singin' in the Rain 2-disc DVD is excellent, with astonishingly colorful picture quality and some great extras (previous movie clips of the songs, a deleted song, etc.) If you want an epic Western, the new Once Upon a Time In The West looks fantastic. And finally, although not yet a classic, I highly recommend the Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers: Extended Edition 4-Disc DVD set, which has a much better version of the movie and tons of extras (I really love all that Gollum stuff)

WAIT on Planet of the Apes!!! Because there's a new 35th anniversary DVD of the first movie coming out early in 2004 with a ton of extras, so wait until that one is out. Added: the new POTA DVD can now be pre-ordered (release date: Feb 3, 2004) - go to the link to check out the ton of extras.

Also, Army of Darkness THE BOOMSTICK edition looks cool. Boomstick Edition rocks! It's got the theatrical cut and the directors cut with the alternate ending. Plus a good commentary, some deleted scenes, and a trailer that has some of the best scenes that never get old in it. "Honey, you got real ugly."
