Oh, and ussrelives, don't worry. We MSTies have various opinions on different episodes, like for example, I don't like Season 6 and consider "City Limits" and "The Screaming Skull" to be some of the best episodes ever.

I think at some point the episode got the mantle of "Best Episode Ever"and the highpoint of MST3K. As you know, people like a winner and I think a lot of adulation for this episode is herd mentality. A lot of people let others make up their minds for them so they won't be embarrased in a conversation or feel they are somehow not with it. A good example is that chick they interviewed on the first special where she claimed to get every joke Best Brains ever wrote. Can you believe that? I sure can't. There's a lot of riffs that sail right over my head but I don't let it bother me. Anyway, I think the episode is great and its in my top five so sometimes I go with the herd.

I love City Limits! You're the only other person I've seen that likes it also. And, I consider Season 6 to be what Seasons 8-10 COULD'VE been. It was the first season in the "modern", post-Joel era of MST, and it was brilliant. 90% of the eps are pure gold in my book. As for Manos...well, its only a "classic" episode because its just so inept. It's not bad in the sense that "Castle of Fu Manchu" was bad, it was just so...juvinile, and its fun to watch it be made fun of. It certainly isn't on my Top 10 list, but, Top 20? Sure.

I still love the Sci-Fi era and I prefer it over most of the stuff in Season 6. I don't know why I don't really like the episodes in that season. For some reason, the jokes don't make me laugh. Not because they're esoteric, but not really funny to me. A lot of the popular season 6 episodes like "Girls Town", "Starfighters", "Sword and The Dragon" were rather unbearably boring to me. From what I have seen (About 14 episodes), these are the only episodes I liked: 603-The Dead Talk Back 604-Zombie Nightmare 606-The Creeping Terror 609-Skydivers 619-Red Zone Cuba 621-The Beast of Yucca Flats 624-Samson vs the Vampire Women Another problem are the movies. Yes, they're bad, but I really can't stand of dull bad movies like "The Sinister Urge". I prefer my bad movies to be cheesy (Samson) or just awfully bad in a trainwreck kind of way (Any Coleman Francis flick and ZN). Anyway, back to the topic! Personally, I don't really care for Manos (The episode that is). It's not bad, but I don't find it good either. When it comes to season 4 episodes with painful movies, I prefer "Monster A-Go-Go", "Attack of The The Eye Creatures" and "Fire Maidens of Outer Space", but that's just me.

Manos was my official introduction to mst. Since it was the first pisode I ever saw, I laughed the whole way through. It was just because of the newness of the show for me. Ever since then I found it boring.

I don't care how many people love it, it's still my favorite-hence the screenname! Any highly praised episode, song, band, movie, or anything is going to have certain people not care for it just because it's popular.
I judge these things based solely on how much I like them, and I can still say Manos is my all-time favorite MST3K episode. My main reason is obvious, Torgo!
The funny part is I'm actually a bigger fan of Mike episodes, but I think I'll always refer to Manos as my favorite. Having said that, I have only seen 70+ episodes, so there is always the chance that one might come along that could land in my number one slot. Jack Frost came DAMN close!

Just wow. You liked The Dead Talk Back AND The Creeping Terror?!? And you didn't like Girls' Town? Your tastes look like the exact opposite of mine. (Although, I also like City Limits). You must be my evil twin, Vlad. Or else you're certifiably insane. Or both. Even if you're way off, it's good to finally meet the yin to my wriggling yang. You are one funky doppleganger. And Danger: Death Ray is in my top 10 all time favorites. Let's all drink to Bart Fargo!

he drinks to lint so its not that big of a deal... name that ep get an imaginary cookie Security guard turned werewolf from Warwilf... On to Manos: It was one of the early episodes that I taped, and for whatever reason, I just took a very quick liking to it. At the time, it was well before I had heard of the "Legend of Manos" which is what it has seemed to become. Not sure if it makes my top ten, as I have yet to compile one, but it would be close.

I saw Manos in a movie theater not long ago and it was a blast. The laughs that filled that room were loud and geniune. Next we saw the "Crawling Hand". And it too gave us laughs, but nothing compared to the way Manos rocked the house.
It's a funny episode and I wouldn't argue with anyone who considered it the best.
There may be some of that herd metality but I don't think that plays a major part in the popularity of an episode.
I find MSTies to be fiercely independent. We may be a bit snobbish but we were not conformists. Hence the variety of opinions on eps, and how we strongly defend and voice our opinions.
That's why, though I might not always agree with my fellow MSTGeeks, I respect them greatly.
