It might be interesting if Joel and Shout created a KTMA section of the Gizmoplex that allowed for some of these episodes to be purchased and downloaded. That's just my dumb pitch.

They should market it as like MST3K: The Early Years or something like that.

When "The State" was fundraising last year, they sold VHS copies of the first season with the original licensed music for thousands of dollars in an auction (they were surprised it went that high), and there are already good circulating copies of that. I feel like Joel could easily make good fundraising money from fans with some kind of similar auction. That would get around the licensing issue, and the stuff would still wind up circulating among the fans who are interested.

The State had a fundraiser last year? How did I miss that?

It was part of their Zoom reunion, raising money for a charity. Each member of the group put up one thing for auction. Lo Truglio did the tapes. Marino would call people as Louie. Lennon had some original props. It was a cool auction.

Frankly all I’d kill for is a copy of K03 if it meant just releasing the TSUBURAYA material and for the sake of finally having a complete season to watch. I have decent copies of the KTMAs much better than the ones previously seen in the 2000s of tape trading.

Well, first step is to actually find a tape of K03, which is pretty much impossible at this point. But I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
I'm really hoping that Joel or one of the guys at Shout gives Mallon a call.

I'll make a comparison to the Grateful Dead. Though unofficially, fans were able to record and trade tapes of live shows for many years. This helped build the fanbase, without massiv record sales, so that their live shows were always a huge draw. Eventually they gave the tapers a specific section to record (look up some pics from the late 80s of chairs with mics and tape decks).
Eventually, when the GD started releasing their own archival shows (sourced from multitrack or 2-track soundboard done usually by a member of the crew), most fans were on board. But through the years, some of these official releases starting replicating actual recordings the fans had already circulated for many years (look up the history of the Betty Boards). Cries of "why should I pay for this, I've already got it" we're frequent.
Now the Dead do have some completely unreleased soundboard tapes in their vault which have never been heard by the general fanbase, and are slowly releasing these (as HDCD). People may have an audience recording of a 1973 show, but want to hear the best version of it.
Many fans have been complaining about "why can't they just put it all out there, even digitally". But like the official KTMA masters (should they exist with SF), if they release them all, then what other surprises do they have for fans.
Outside of K03, these off-air recordings have been around for decades, and while we would kill to have the best quality ones in our hands, we don't make those decisions, and quite frankly, we have no right to "demand" their release.
Maybe someday, slowly we may have them. And if MST3K can continue in this new venture for years, maybe it might be part of a gift for fans each year. I don't know what will happen, but all I can do is be patient.

Ok folks, so the kickstarter just released a $400 "all available classic digital episodes" add-on reward. I've got every ep on DVD or Bluray, but have been thinking about scaling back on DVDs and BRs for a while, and this would allow me to ditch *most* of my MST physical media.
Odd thing is, though, there are some strange omissions from the list, and I figured this thread might be a good place for info. So, some of the missing episodes make sense, but others are odd--for instance, the list includes Gamera, Gamera vs. Guiron, and Gamera vs Gaos...but is missing Gamera vs. Barugon and Gamera vs Zigra. Why might that be? Would those films all be on the same deal?
I figure if any place on the board, it might be this thread.

Barugon and Zigra are both still on ShoutFactoryTV. That's weird how they're not included.

Oh, hmmmmmm...so, looks like episodes included in the "Classic Pick Packs" last time were excluded from the big set...I wonder if that's the case this time? So, like, maybe some of the missing episodes are going to be in the 10 episode classic pack?

Just comparing the list here and the list of episodes broadcast on Twitch, I found that these episodes were missing.
204 - Catalina Caper 304 - Gamera Vs. Barugon 316 - Gamera Vs. Zigra 322 - Master Ninja I 324 - Master Ninja II 609 - The Skydivers 816 - Prince of Space 822 - Overdrawn at the Memory Bank 913 - Quest of the Delta Knights
However, I also saw that the Kickstarter collection contains several episodes that have not been shown on Twitch.
307 - Daddy-O 313 - Earth Vs. The Spider 315 - Teenage Caveman 505 - The Magic Voyage of Sinbad 514 - Teen-Age Strangler 516 - Alien from L.A. 602 - Invasion U.S.A. 618 - High School Big Shot 623 - The Amazing Transparent Man 808 - The She-Creature 817 - The Horror of Party Beach 1007 - Track of the Moon Beast
Not sure how many of these are on ShoutFactoryTV. I'll have to look at that later.
