The board's become too turgid and heavy lately, I say. I thought I'd cheer it up with a return to a fun, esoteric topic.
The Firesign Theater was a California-based, 4-man, quasi-hippie comedy troupe that specialized in producing elaborate stereophonic comedy albums, mostly between 1969 and 1980.
If you don't already know their work, get yourself some CDs and get with the program. Some of the very best include:
"How Can You Be in Two Places At Once, When You're Not Anywhere At All?"
"Don't Crush That Dwarf, Hand Me the Pliers!"
and fairly recently, "Give Me Immortality or Give Me Death!"
So, here are some taglines that show up in MST3K, that you might have heard, but never knew where they came from:
"... to a world of snails and adventure, as we board the Golden Hind...."
"Shoes for Industry, comrade!"
"He's no fun, he fell right over!"
(in phony Mexican accent) "Hey, Cisco!"
Okay, FT fans, now it's your turn!

I can't think of any other FT references from the show, but I'll just mention that "I Think We're All Bozos On This Bus" is one of the greatest comedy albums of all time.

"One shining steel rail!" got used a couple of times I think, perhaps in Giant Gila Monster and also Girl in Lover's Lane.
Joel's tickle bazooka from Catalina Caper begins with a nod to them as well.

I loved that reference, even though he messed it up. He says "Fightin's outta style, fun's where the fear is," which sounds a bit more profound than the actua quote (from Bozos): "Fightin's outta style, fun's where the fair's at!"

Shoes for the dead!" I've heard this line in some MST episode. It's also from the album DON'T CRUSH THAT DWARF, HAND ME THE PLIERS.

I'll just give a random MST3K riff: "He's gonna have so much sex with your daughter."

In the "Earth vs Soup" sketch Joel threw in an "Oh, Peorgie!"

OK, it never was referenced, but here's a blast from the past for the other five of you. If memory serves:
Peorgie Tirebighter He's a spy and a girl delighter! Orgy Firefighter Just a student like you!
If you're lookin' for the captain of the ringball team you can bet he won't be there! You'll find him poppin' off at Pop's Sodium Shop trailin' a Red with red hair!
Peorgie Tirebighter Just a student like you! (Like me?) Just a student like you! Just a student like youuuuuuu!

"Stop singing and finish your homework!"
I just watched Girls Town for the first time in yearts, and at one point Servo mutters "We're all bozos on this bus."

In at least one episode, someone in the movie refers to his son, and Servo quips, "He's not your son, Fred."
That's a Porgie ref.

I don't recollect the episode, but there was one opening where they came back from the commercial to Servo saying, "Alligator bit him, crocogator bit him, that's why he's so mean!"

In at least one episode, someone in the movie refers to his son, and Servo quips, "He's not your son, Fred." That's a Porgie ref. ... and it's from "Crash of the Moons" This is one major bump. I had to go back something like 26 pages to find it. But I can't help myself
