I think Trace out of all of them was the best actor and best at doing great voices. He was great at working a puppet, great at making props and sets, and was great at writing and directing. If he can do all this, then you know he has to have his own fan base! What do you think of him?

The man's a legend. I like how subtle his humour is when he's not in character, as in the scene from the scrapbook tape where he's talking about what knot he's going to use to hang himself, but when in character there's just something that takes over. You can see so much of the John Cleese thing about him in that respect.

Even though I was introduced to the SciFi episodes first, I instantly fell in love with the Comedy Central era when I first gained access to it, and it was due in large part to the fact that Trace was puppeteering Crow. He was the master of subtle movements of the puppet, making Crow seem a lot more alive, and his voice was perfect for the little guy, able to convey a wide range of emotions and impression and always be funny at the same time. And Dr. Forrester was a brilliant character, equal parts sinister and tortured but always hilarious (it definitely helped when he had Frank to play off of, too).
I still maintain that the show lost something irreplaceable when Trace left. He brought a sense of unending fun to everything he did, and nobody was truly able to recapture that spirit in his absence.

I love Joel and I love Frank, but I think the show took the biggest hit when Trace left. Besides the great character of Dr. Forrester, Trace really made Crow come alive as a real character, not just a puppet spouting lines of dialog.

Very cool. Hey, is it just me, or is Trace looking a bit like Michael Gross in that photo?

There has to be a portrait in his attic, that is now showing the usual aging of us mere mortals...

Add me to the chorus of voices in agreement, especially to your observations about Trace's puppeteering. He was brilliant with Crow, particularly in the later seasons. And his mastery of voice-work is well-known.

Out of all the cast I've always loved Trace and Mike. My favorite era of MST is CC Mike era.

Trace is my favorite performer of the Brains.
I like all of them for different reasons, but Trace has always been my favorite. His timing, his voice, his puppetry, his scenery-eating turns as Dr. F, I loved it all.
As good as Bill was, and as great as some of the Sci-Fi eps were, they always feel like they're missing something. And that something is Trace.
Sometimes the Brains visit the board (I'm told), and since he might read this thread: I salute you, my good man! You are a unique talent and a great craftsman. If the opportunity ever arose to have a Grape Nehi with you over a game of Uno, I certainly wouldn't pass it up.

Trace was an absolute genius. I don't mean to take away from Bill Corbett, but he did have big shoes to fill and that's a hard job for anyone. I think Bill did well.

Trace is basically too cool for words. If there was a zombie apocalypse, he'd be totally welcome to share my food and shelter and guns with me.

I'm a fan of all the cast of MST3K, but I have to admit, Trace seems to take the cake for a lot of reasons. I always thought he'd be perfect for voice-over acting. I want him to do something for an animation gig someday, if I ever get the chance. Of course, I'd be thrilled and honored if I could get any of the mst3k folks to do the same.
I was pretty happy to see him again (in silhouette form) when Cinematic Titanic started up.

I've always been one to sing the praises of Trace. And Trace and Frank were one of the best comedy teams of all time. After MST stopped I had a odd thought, that Trace would have done well in the SNL cast, maybe breathed some life into that show. Just a crazy thought.

Trace and Frank were HONESTLY as good as Abbott and Costello. Those two were brilliant.
