In the "Geek Fantasy" thread in the general discussion area, I mentioned that I'd love to see an animated version of MST3K. Others shared my interest, and it got me to thinking - if there was a cartoon version of the show, what would it look like? Surely the robots would be more expressive and much more mobile, for one. So I decided to draw this (in MS Paint, mind you - I haven't got any better programs). Simple but expressive designs for Mike, Servo, Crow, and Gypsy as cartoon characters. Enjoy!

(laughs) That's cute! The style kinda reminds me of something, but I'm not sure what...kind of like one of those goofier old adventure games on the computer, maybe...
Now, draw Joel and the Mads (Forrester and Frank)! I dare ya. :)

These would be brillant for an animated series. Could be a cool theme idea. Always thought it would have been fun to see MST3K riff on some of the more poorly done animated fare out there.

Here's the Mads - I'll see if I can get to Joel later in the week (I'm a busy guy, you know). Click the URL, Frank...

(claps and laughs) WHOO-HOO! That is so adorable. (I also notice that you've got them wearing the original Gizmonics insignia instead of the Deep 13 badges from later on...tHe MiSsTrEsS aPpRoVeS.) :)
By the way, of course I didn't mean that you _had_ to draw any of the other characters RIGHT NOW. I meant, when you have time. Ya know.

(claps and laughs) WHOO-HOO! That is so adorable. (I also notice that you've got them wearing the original Gizmonics insignia instead of the Deep 13 badges from later on...tHe MiSsTrEsS aPpRoVeS.) :) Yeah, the way I had the animated series planned, I wanted to throw in a lot of classic-era references like that. In fact, the way I have the whole show plotted out (I know it's unlikely to become a reality, but I really like to put a lot of effort into my fan works), it follows the same chronology of the live-action series, but completely reversed. That is, the first three seasons have M&tB (with Bill Corbett as Crow and Pat Bransteg as Gypsy) as the riffers and Pearl, Bobo, and Observer as the Mads. Season 4 (which is only six episodes long) has the removal of Observer and Bobo, the revival of Dr. Forrester, the return of Jim Mallon as Gypsy, and the changing of Crow's bowling pin (returning him to his old Trace Beaulieu voice). Frank returns at the beginning of Season 5 to oust Pearl for good, Mike escapes and is replaced by Joel halfway through Season 6, and at the start of Season 10, Joel changes Servo's voice back to its Josh Weinstein setting, and Dr. Erdhart finally shows up again and fights with Frank for the position of Dr. F's assistant. A nice way for the show to completely come full-circle, as it were.

(laughs) What is it about me that I would find that _awesome_? :P I like the old-school stuff...heck, I even like Josh, though I _know_ he's not popular. Dr. E...well, if nothing else, it's fun/interesting getting to see Forrester's personality playing off of someone else besides Frank... I also rather like the original Servo's voice. He does this very flat deadpan type sarcasm that just has me _rolling_ on the floor. (Not saying it's _better_ than Kevin's, mind you, just...good in its own, seperate, but equally valid way.)
And the idea of doing the show in reverse is just...adorable in its very twistedness. As for the two sidekicks fighting...that reminds me, have you ever read any of the text MSTings of Megane 6.7? He has this miniseries called "Shorties!" in which Dr. E comes back (he managed to get out of the movie-verse, and of COURSE he wasn't _really_ killed by the giant arachnid in "Earth Vs. the Spider"...it takes more than that to take down a MST character permanently!) and wants...REVENGE!! against Dr. F. for leaving him in there. So he actually _teams up_ with Frank, who is also not terribly happy with Clayton of course, and...
...the next time Joel calls in, THE SIDEKICKS HAVE TAKEN OVER THE ASYLUM! It's great, it's just...a really funny and cute idea. (Who is in charge? Well, when both people are subordinates you might have trouble figuring that out, but Megane went with the easy answer in this case: Seniority. Dr. E. is now wearing a green labcoat over his usual black suit and is The Official Mad.) Of course, Forrester eventually comes back and...well, but if you want to find out how it ends, you'll have to read them for yourself. ;)
So...dare I also ask you to draw Dr. E. as well as Joel at some point, or...? Then you'd be the...what, _second_ person to draw fan-art of that character? :P (Oh, I assume that a few fans drew the oldschool Mads back during the Season 1 days, but try looking up MST3K fanart on the 'net and pictures of the Mads will almost always have Frank.)
But seriously. Your idea sounds really cute. :)

(giggles) These are just too _adorable_! I especially like the way you did Larry's hair, with the ponytail and sticking WAY up/out all over the place on top. Heh. If you were submitting these to DeviantArt, I would be Favouriting/commenting on them all over the place and would've added you as a Friend _ages_ ago.
Joel does need somewhat heavier eyebrows...if we're being _realistic_, but these are supposed to be cartoony and as far as I can tell, he seems to be giving those just-a-line eyebrows to EVERYBODY. Which makes it "a style thing", not really an error. So...yeah.
Ah. One LEETLE error, though--Larry's suit should have two rows of buttons, too, same as Frank's.
