It's "happy" because it's a total family holiday, promoting marriage, so don't live in sin or you won't ever get to participate in this sacred holiday!
You see how Christianity pervades everything and warps it? What's wrong with just living how you want to, nobody has to get married if they don't want to.
Wow, that's veering off topic, so I'm gonna stop.

It seems that you were able to adjust pretty well. It's a shame that your dad couldn't be there for you though. Kind of something I can't relate to. I have a lot of respect for my parents.
