Cool. And, changing up filming from Nashville. Interesting. All the VIP stuff went in like under an hour.

I think the biggest thing is: This is nothing new. It's how RiffTrax has operated forever, even when it was still being written by MK&B (each would get a third of the movie to riff), and I thought it sucked back then-- How do you bounce jokes back and forth off of each other? That's how you get the best jokes. How are you ever going to get any jokes or themes woven throughout the movie? Those are my favorite joke. It's what really gives the feel that you are watching and experiencing the movie with the riffers.
It doesn't surprise me that this is how they do it at NuMST3K, but it is just more sad proof that we'll never have a true new riffing show until someone has the b@lls, or the laziness, to actually sit in a room with all the performers/writers and watch and write-riff the damn movie together.

I always liked him. I thought he was already dead. Maybe thinking of Gary Shandling, who I also like and I think had similar comedic tendencies.
I'm pretty sure I have a memory of Lewis having his own TV show for a season or so that centered on his comedic style. (...google... Anything But Love, and it actually ran 4 season and costarted Jamie Lee Curtis!)
Ah the late 80s.

I wish frank would tone down his politics, I have a hard time making it through these nowadays.

MST3K was made in america by americans who had the freedom to make a silly show that often poked fun at america and americans.

I wouldn't disagree. His singing is lovely and often clever and funny. But I would say it's on the upper end of the usage scale.
I also sometimes think that a minor quibble of the golden era of Season 3-5 is that they use a lot of sing a song or point out a look-a-like to fill riff space. It's kind of like their version of Season 8-10s use of look at that dumb guy, this movie sucks type filler riffs.

I'm more interested in what this means for the future of the show. A rise in toxicity usually doesn't bode well. I don't know that I would call most of what I read 'toxicity'. (I will say, I'm of the camp that thinks that word is often used as a reactionary push-back term.) I thought most of it was just more straight-forward discontent or even just apathy towards the reboot edition of the show. As for how that bodes, if we assume it is the real sentiment of the majority of fans, or at least of the larger moderate to casual fans, it means the show needs another reboot and overhaul (or I guess un-overhaul, maybe going back to a smaller, tighter crew). And likely not right away, but after this current iteration has faded a little.

I like the far-reaching and obscure riffs, but lack thereof is not what broke the new show, it's the tone. There are tons of just watching the movie riffs in the original and they make up most of my favorites. You could have a whole episode without a pop culture or esoteric reference and still have a great episode if the jokes are smartly written and well delivered.
So, I guess this still goes back to the writers room. But I'll throw in the acting too. Trace Beaulieu is one hell of a comedic performer.
...Oh, and there are quite a few replies to that post. I would say the spread is
80% don't like nuMST3k 10% okay with it 10% supporting/defending it
I'm really surprised how much has come out during this last crowdfunder.
Although I also wonder if what really is happening is us inside the bubble people who love or hate nuMST3K are seeing the broader reaction to it and it turns out the wider response to nuMST3K is much more lukewarm, and the response to the DIY multi-host season has been downright negative.

The commercial is fine, I just wish it wasn't repeated EVERY SINGLE COMMERCIAL BREAK, lol. Wasn't that every commercial break on CC? I remember when my college roommate and I found CC on our dorm cable box in fall of 93. It was AWESOME--Kids in the Hall, Whose Line Is It, Soap, SNL repeats, and of course, MST3K. We watched it for hours every day. And we watched all 3 commercials they had too, over and over and over!

Hmm.. Could be the viewing part and not the compression part. Like when you watch it in quicktime you are watching it on a smarter player than the youtube video player, which admittedly is probably optimized for modern 720/1080 viewing.

I watch crap on youtube a lot. But then I'm not a huge video guy, the audio is more important to me -- I like to hear the movie and the riffs all nice and clear (and I hate when the riffs are too loud for the movie -- rifftrax did this for awhile and I heard the numst3k s13 was really bad, but I didn't watch any of those except for a few from online that had been audio-corrected by a fan)
Anywoo, what does this decompression do? Are you saying they like pre-decompress a smaller file into the larger size and do it poorly, or they actually upsacale the resolution, and do it poorly? Do you have any screen shots of it doing this?

Speaking of previously used, it looks like The Mads will be doing A Case of Spring Fever during this. That was from the Mike/Kevin/Bill era, so I will be interested to hear their fresh take. More political jokes and cussing.
