Ah! But before Rhino, before even thinking about home videos and DVDs, BBI allowed tape trading. That correct, before they started selling the episodes on VHS & DVD. They looked the other way so people who didn't have cable could watch the show. It didn't really have an effect on their revenue. But do you think now that they are selling episodes, that they really want you to buy illegal copies instead of the official releases. I suggest you read the MST3K Info FAQ about this subject: www.mst3kinfo.com/mstfaq/legal.html

a few misconceptions: 1. That without Rhino there is no more MST on Home Video That's no misconception. Rhino alone holds the the distribution rights for MST3K. What's the confusion? I presume you're referring to someone else picking up the rights? Possible? Yes. Probable? Eh... Unless you can somehow prove that Shout! Factory or someone else will pick up MST3K in the event that Rhino ditches it, I think at the very least it's something to be concerned about. How many companies do you know are waiting in line to sell a show plagued with horrendous licensing problems? None that want to make a sizable profit. When did anyone say this? Oh, that's right: never. I've always said it was the boycott that the anger could have led to that would have harmed future releases. Are you kidding me? Rhino is selling MST3K DVDs to make money. If they don't make money, they'll stop. No, it may not happen right after one set flops, but if they think it will stop generating revenue, they will stop selling it. There's no misconception here. That doesn't mean someone will listen. They'll either suddenly start catering to our every whim or stop releasing DVDs. Which one is more likely? Moolah to the Brains, I suppose. If I ever see Trace Beaulieu begging for money on the street, I'll buy. Until then, I think they'll be fine. Good for you. Then don't buy their stuff. Some people, heaven forbid, like the releases and - get this - want more! Are they insane for wanting to buy the sets? So what's your point? That it was legal then? That this somehow changes the fact that refusing to buy releases because of those tapes is a stupid argument?

If in fact Rhino expects those with fan copies to buy their DVDs then they should jolly well do what nearly every other TV series to DVD has done and give us some extras that we can't get otherwise. I feel under absolutely NO obligation to buy. Give me a product I WANT to buy. And as I said I have almost every Rhino. But no one's going to guilt me into it. Sure, I want to support BBI, and have. But it's my choice.

I'm as happy as a pig in slop. Two CC-era and two Sci-Fi era. The perfect blend for me. Best part is, I've only seen half of "Phantom Planet". The other 3 and half episodes will be fresh viewing! Kudos to Rhino. That is, if they release this close to the tentative date and do it without making any mistakes! Extras would be nice, too...

Oh, and I always buy the official releases. I have far too many playback problems with almost every fan DVD I've ever gotten (and yes, I've gotten them from several traders, including the top dog on this forum).
Plus, if you are paying $50+ for these boxsets, you are not shopping around....
All of them (except for maybe one), including the upcoming Volume 8, are $35.88 at deepdiscountdvd.com. And if you wait until one of their 20% off sales, it totals $28.70. That's just a little over $7 an episode, which is what people are saying they pay for the fan-made DVDs. ;D ;D ;D

I still don't know why in the world you think people should waste their money on DVD releases of things they have. I just don't. I still don't know why in the world you think people should waste their money on cars when they could just steal them... or at least buy stolen vehicles. I just don't. BECAUSE IT'S AGAINST THE LAWYeah, stealing a car and getting illegal DVDs of a television show are the exact same thing.

I still don't know why in the world you think people should waste their money on DVD releases of things they have. I just don't. I guess I'm saying we never should have bought the fan copies in the first place if we didn't fully intend to get the real ones later. Say who? You're not god. Isn't that what the whole tape trading establishment is based on? Nope. Aren't they supposed to be temporary until we can get the actual product? *sigh* What the tape trading "establishment" is about or originally was about is spreading the word of MST3K about the land. Hence the "Keep Circulating the Tapes" message at the end. Here is a good quote from Tom's MST3K Temple. Again, I'm not trying to guilt trip people, but what "they have" is technically something they never should have had. Yes, technically. We've been through this. In any other facet of entertainment this wouldn't even be any sort of arguement, because it's so utterly ridiculous. Everytime World Wrestling Entertainment releases a DVD wrestling fans don't all get copies of it and burn their old tapes of old matches.

Ah, the classical I have no logical repsonse so I'll just use a smily to try and save face. Good for you. Then don't buy their stuff. Some people, heaven forbid, like the releases and - get this - want more! Are they insane for wanting to buy the sets? Maybe I was a little harsh. In fact I was. I shouldn't say that everyone is wasting their money by buying DVDs. If they want it, more power to them. It's their right, and if they're satisfied by it, they can go 'head on, it's there movie. BUT if I don't want to buy it, for whatever reason, I don't have to. BTW, what's with reform? Did Udvankory start two accounts? ;D

Just figure I'd throw my two cents in here real quick...
I feel that if you don't want to buy them because of lack of extras and poor quality control then fine, more power to you. But if you are not buying mainly due to the fact that you have an illegal copy then that is wrong. It is the very reason why these laws are so convoluted and annoying, because people cannot be trusted to fess up when it is time to pay for what they got illegally. I download episodes and ger fan copies because otherwise I couldn't see them, but as soon as a dvd version gets released I buy it, since I would buy it if I didn't have that illegal copy.
But of course everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but since law is on Udvankory's side I would say that he had the upper hand. I mean if the dvd's started tanking then the first thing Rhino and BBI would probably do is crack down on the illegal trading that they have been turning a blind eye to. I doubt that would ever happen, but they do have an easy legal victory there if they ever decided to try.
Now, back onto the topic, I am sooooo happy that this is a Mike heavy set, with 3 eps being fresh views for me, and the other one being a totally forgotten experience.

Anyway, back to the eps...
I'm happy.
Color this Volume weird.
I mean every ep is pretty twisted in some way, except Phantom Planet which is pretty standard sci-fi fare, but it does have that cooky alien.
I'm very happy and proud of Monster a Go Go...you're a classic. One of the best.
Phantom Planet, you're fine. Welcome.
Hobgoblins could have lived without you, but at least you get the fans arguing.
Dead Talk Back.....yea....I love a black sheep. And you're not the best black sheep but you are an excellent one and you deserve to be put out there....
See you later
love, LMD

The most i've ever had to pay for a new volume was 40, the least was 10 dollars. With extras (like the much loved interview) or uncut sides it's only icing on the already great cake. Glad that Monster A Go-Go is finally being released, this will finally have a larger projection to the masses to see that it is worse than Manos.

Monster a Go Go is the only one out of the 4 I saw...
BTW, why do we vote on these things when clearly they can't give us the episodes we want anyway? I understand the licensing reasons, but I can't help but feel that they just give us a vote to keep us quiet.

I can't even find a single disc for that much. $60 is the standard fare at Suncoast and Sam Goody.
