I think it is a great choice of movies for Mike to riff. But I'm not bidding to be in the movie. That idea is kinda lame.

The folks at Legend Films wanted me to direct you to this - I know that ebay auctions are technically not allowed, but I think this is an exception - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE LEGEND FILMS INVITES FANS TO BECOME A PART OF CINEMA HISTORY San Diego, CA. – September 28, 2005 For sci-fi movie fans, immortality on the silver screen may be just a mouse click away. From September 29, 2005 through October 5, 2005, Legend Films is sponsoring an eBay auction that will give winners the distinction of having their photo or name in the company’s new colorized DVD release of “Plan 9 From Outer Space.” This once-in-a-lifetime auction will give sci-fi enthusiasts a chance to become a part of cinema history with two unique bidding opportunities. Movie fans desiring an eternally famous face can bid to have their photo displayed on a bedroom wall frame in the celebrated Bela Lugosi attack scene. For those who prefer a privilege more permanent than a marquee credit, a second auction offers the winning bidder an engraved tombstone in the cemetery where aliens are reanimating earth’s dead. “We recognize that this film has a cult following,” says David Martin, CEO of Legend Films. “Now dedicated Plan 9 fans will have the chance to actually be in their favorite movie.” The Ed Wood classic, available in pre-release on the Legend Films website this December, and at retailers everywhere in 2006, will be completely restored and in color for the first time. The DVD also contains hilarious special features including the lost Plans 1-8, never-before-seen home movies of Ed Wood in drag and an exclusive commentary from Mike Nelson of “Mystery Science Theater 3000.” Visit www.legendfilms.net for more information on the auction and the DVD release. Legend Films, a company renowned for its innovation and artistry, is the leader in restoration and colorization of classic films. All Legend Films DVD releases include the colorized version and a fully restored black and white version in its original form. Thanks Dr. Forrester - We had an incredible amount of fun producing this project and it definitely shows. The high definition master we used was telecined from two different 35mm sources to achieve the highest quality prior to restoration. The black and white version is totally pristine. No screwing around with the original by Legend Films as is our policy. But the colorized version is outragous and Mike is hilarious. Definitely an MST3K keeper!!! Trust me, I'm as big an MST3K fan as anyone on this board and always have been. The eBay auction is in keeping with our and Mike's overall approach to the colorized version. This is most certainly a totally unique viewing experience of an Ed Wood film. EDIT: Barry, I fixed your message, you accidentally posted your message in the quote

I hate colorization....and this seems like a lame idea. I agree. Also, I have to say Plan 9 from Outer Space NEVER would have worked on MST3K. It would have suffered the same problem that Hamlet did, too much dialouge and it would have lowered the riff count. It wasn't nearly as dreary, but I think would have ended up being a disappointment. Here, since it's running commentary, I think it would work.

I'd like to get this for the Mike commentary, NOT for seeing some guy photo shopped into a scene....

Right VH, I think I told Barry the same thing - it (maybe) wouldn't have worked well with MST but I think it's perfect for a solo commentary. Barry, will there be a Super Exclusive Mike Autogrpahed version of this one? I really look forward to this DVD! Absolutely Forrest... Mike will be autographing a pre-release version.

Thanks, Barry. This sounds like a great release! For all of you folks whining about the colorization, keep in mind that the original B&W print is always included on these Legend Films releases. The colorization is for fun. Get over it. You and your stupid minds. Stupid. Stupid.

Get ready to slap me down but so far...the colorization has been very well done. I (gulp) like them.

You know, I've ALWAYS wanted to see Plan 9 for some reason, but never have yet. I don't know WHY I want to see Plan 9, because it's a horrid movie, why would I WANT to? I guess there's something drawing about the movie.
Mike's commentary will be interesting.

Great news! I loved Mike's House on Haunted Hill commentary. I’ll be ordering this as soon as it becomes available. I hope you can listen to the commentary on the black and white version on this one.

Why should I have to muck with the TV controls and then much with getting it back where it was. Barry, just put the commentary on the B&W also. Would that be so difficult?

And no, turning the color down is not satisfactory. Why should I have to muck with the TV controls and then much with getting it back where it was. Simply turning the color down doesn't really work, anyway. Black and white composition is a whole other animal, and requires its own transfer to truly accomodate (and truly do justice to) the depth, black levels, etc. B&W cinematography has its own artistic merits and "range" is very important. But I'm with the camp that doesn't mind the color transfer as long as the original is provided. The Ted Turner "color everything and destroy the originals" rampage is one thing, providing the original and offering a colored version as a fun extra like Legend Films is doing is another. To the people who vehemently oppose it I say: lighten up.

What Udvankory said, turning the color down really doesn't work. It's going to look wrong. I don't really see why the colorization is necessary. It doesn't appeal to me, and I have to say, a director chose to put a movie in B&W. Sure, some chose because they were cheap bastards, but that's the decision made, I never thought I'd say this, but you really shouldn't mess with Ed Wood vision. ;D I don't like it, sorry. The commentaries sound great though. I still don't see the purpose of colorizing all these PD movies.

But you don't get the commentary on the B&W... Barry, just put the commentary on the B&W also. Would that be so difficult? phantom Johnson is right. The colorization gimmick is part of Legend's angle that probably enables them to get these films, so more power to them. Kudos for cleaning up the b/w transfer and including it, as well. But why not put the commentary on both? That would make everyone happy.

My my my, what a whiney bunch we have. (teasing)
I hate the colorization BUT, They did offer commentary on both Color and B&W on Haunted Hill and Carnival. So no reason for complaint.
On the Ebay thing, Geez, it's a cute, fun idea. Untighten those sphincters folks. The light and joy has left your eyes.
