I loved "The Starfighters" the first time I saw it. I had heard people talk about how boring the movie was, but I had no idea just how boring it really is. I was shocked and amazed at how much nothing really happens in the movie, but the riffs are absolutely brilliant in spite of that.
In fact, I think that might be the secret to this episode's success - there's no plot and no character development to slow the guys down, so they just fire hit after hit without stopping. Each riff just compounds upon the previous ones to make for one of the finest episodes I've ever had the pleasure to see.

I think the short time gap between Vol. 11 & 12 might be due to Vol. 11 being released 4 months later than originally planned. My guess is that it's because 3 or 4 of the movies on V-11 are public domain...which most likely saved Rhino time & money, allowing them to quickly move on to V-12. Or Rhino was already getting Vol. 12 ready while delaying the release of Vol. 11 twice, despite all of its movies being public domain.

I completely forgot about the V-11 delays. I wonder what that was all about. I swear, the more you guys talk about "The Starfighters", the more I look forward to seeing it. It sounds like the title is the most interesting part of the whole friggin' movie.

I couldn't really remember The Rebel Set so I looked it up in the ep. guide and remembered the guy who puts on a priest collar and BINGO! Nobody recognizes him anymore! I should try that. Maybe people will think I'm new at work and I'll get re-hired at a higher hourly rate. I was also curious to see how Rhino got the rights to Clonus since it was released on DVD by another company a couple of years ago right around the time The Island came out. I'm buying this one quick in case it gets pulled because of that.

Travis, I hated The Starfighters passionately when I first saw it. The movie was like a black hole that sucked out all joy. However, now, it's one of my top five favorite episodes. I think I just needed to become familiar with it and get over it. My sig quote should make that clear. That's one of my all time favorite riffs Hugh And pslowner, thanks for the kind words. Only I'm afreared you will find many of my opinions distasteful (at least that's what other memebers have told me You know, I was going to say something in your reviews' defense, but I just read your ST: Generations review. Forget it. (Brent Spiner is a saint! A saint!)

. I was also curious to see how Rhino got the rights to Clonus since it was released on DVD by another company a couple of years ago right around the time The Island came out. I'm buying this one quick in case it gets pulled because of that. Mondo Macabro released CLONUS on DVD in 2005 (And then re-released it in 2006). Rhino got the rights from them (or from whoever Mondo Macabro licensed it from). So it's legit either way. I can pretty much assure you this set won't get pulled because of CLONUS. Vol. 10 was pulled because Krypton International thought they could sublicense GODZILLA VS. MEGALON to Rhino, Vol. 1 and 3 were out of print (and are supposed to be going back in to print) because the Crown International title rights expired , and Vol. 9 was most likely pulled because Krypton International thought they had WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET... when really Wade Williams/Corinth Films should have the home video rights to that.
Anyhow.. this set is gonna rule. While doubtful, I hope the cover art doesn't suck as much as.. well... the last 8 or so box sets!

I'm a little disappointed there isn't a "Who the Hell is Merritt Stone" supplemental extra.
Just in case anyone was wondering about how the episode's scored on Rhino's most wanted poll:
Parts: The Clonus Horror: #19 The Starfighters: #67 Secret Agent Super Dragon: #82 The Rebel Set: #131
Again it doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to how Rhino's releasing the episodes, but I am glad to see at least one top 20 episode.

Does that really matter though? I think the poll was just to give Rhino a rough idea of what episodes fans wanted. It would be interesting if they did another poll (by now more fans would have seen most-of or the entire series thanks to DVD-R and DAP).

Rhino needs to put out more of MST Hour segements from episodes they have already released! Which reminds me - "Secret Agent Super Dragon" was part of the Mystery Science Theater Hour (one of the handful of Season 5 episodes they did), but they didn't include the segments for that one on this set. Or at least they're not mentioned; maybe they'll show up anyway.

I'm getting my Poopy-Suit ready as we speak. I wonder if the set will include a theatrical trailer for STARFIGHTERS? That would be interesting to see... it would probably be more interesting than the film!
