Well they negotiate the rights to the films on an episode by episode basis then release what they can.

y Excuse me if this is a naive question, but why can't Rhino release complete season sets? Does it have to do with the rights to the films, because otherwise it doesn't make much sense to me. It mainly is due to the rights of the films: forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=mstchat&action=display&thread=1152828151&page=1But also, what distributor in their right mind would release a 13 (let alone 24)-disc season set? Only the hardcore fans would be willing to spend that amount of cash at once. As odd as it may sound, it's WAYYY better to release random selections of episodes. That way you don't end up with all below-par (1st season) episodes in one set; which might turn off regular shoppers from buying future sets. MST3k is a very unique show and I'm sure BBI never thought it would ever be released on home video.

If memory serves...when the original deal was struck with Rhino for the VHS tapes..they were going to do like 20 ep's the first year and many more to follow. That was what, summer '96 I think.

Seasonal sets, though legally impossible, wouldn't be all that impractical to package. They don't have to put one episode per disc - DVDs can store up to six hours of footage, if I'm not mistaken, so you could put about three 92-to-97-minute episodes on one disc. That'd only equal eight discs of episodes for the average 24-episode season, plus another for special features and stuff. I know people who would willingly buy nine-disc sets, presuming they were reasonably priced (of course, with the rights to some of these movies being so grandiose nowadays, high prices would likely be inevitable).

Feh. I'm more interested in The Ramones "It's Alive" live compilation than the next MST box set. Rhino cares about the Ramones, and it shows. Rhino doesn't care about MST, and it shows.

Yeah, and I'm glad that MST has done well enough for them to continue this series for so many years. Definitely! Keep 'em comin' Rhino! And it also looks like another black spine, despite the front's lack of that color. I just got mine from Best Buy. And yeah...black spine. Once again. But on the bright side, I actually like the rest of the artwork (minus the poorly-executed cover, of course).

Can you show some pictures (mine won't come till Friday)? I don't have a scanner, but I can try to describe it for you... When you take out the disk-case and unfold it partway, there is framed art on either side: one depicting Crow and the other depicting Servo. It's nothing amazing, but I do think it's pretty cool...and unlike anything seen in previous volumes. Then you unfold it all the way (to look at the disks themselves and the artwork behind them)... The disks are kind of random and unremarkable, but I'm really feelin' the background. It continues the whole "art gallery" theme of the cover (framed artwork/drawings, another statue, Gypsy, a cute little reference to a riff, etc.) There are also a few seemingly out-of-place elements, but it works for me. It's a good concept. Also? Maroon happens to be my favorite color. If only they would've had Crow facing straight ahead on the cover, with his legs intact. I'll...never get over that. But it's the only major blunder here. I was pleasantly surprised by the rest of the packaging.

At least, that is my fanboy hope.

Everyone else getting this ?? My sister's getting me it for my birthday. Amazon's got a dispatch time of 1-3 weeks. Given that it would already have taken 2 weeks to get here to Scotland I didn't really fancy waiting that long so I've added money from my own pocket to go through an importer and hopefully get it faster
