We have learned that Rhino is set to re-release "The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10."
So, what happened? Apparently there was some sort of rights mix-up regarding the inclusion, in the original set, of episode 212- GODZILLA VS. MEGALON. In the new set, which Rhino has called "The Mystery Science Theater 3000 Collection, Vol. 10.2," that disk has been replaced with a disc containing with episode 402- THE GIANT GILA MONSTER.
Even more exciting--one of the features of the disk will be a short sketch featuring Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu and J. Elvis Weinstein commenting on the SNAFU that led to the withdrawl and re-release.
The disc also includes an extra feature starring actor Don Sullivan (who stars in "The Giant Gila Monster").
Tentative street date: Feb 5th.
As a reminder, the other three episodes in the set are episode 503- Swamp Diamonds (plus short: What to Do on a Date), episode 514- Teen-age Strangler (plus short: Is this Love?) and episode 810- The Giant Spider Invasion.

This is nice except, I already own Vol. 10 and I don't want to buy it again just for one new episode.

Well damn.... Already have it... but Gila Monster and the original orginal cast! Are you there Rhino? Any chance of offering a single release of Gila Monster over the net?

Ahh. The Essentials redux!
Stupid Rhino.
On the one hand, I'm glad for the re-release.
On the other, it's another classic Rhino screw-job.
Here's an easy solution: also release Gila Monster as a single disc with the new extras.
It won't happen, though. It makes too much sense.

If they release the disc solo, I've got no qualm with them. Otherwise, I'm angry.

Wasn't the whole Vol. 10 set forced out of print/cancelled because of the lack of Godzilla rights?
Yeah it's not advantageous for folks who got the original version of Vol. 10, but for folks who are just discovering the show/don't have it yet, isn't it better to replace the one and have the complete set of four available for them, rather than putting out a new one by itself and making three whole other episodes unavailable?
I mean, maybe I'm interpreting this wrong, but right now it looks like gaining one (and losing one) is better than losing four.

Lame. Not completely unexpected, but lame. Come on Rhino, give us a single DVD release of Giant Gila Monster; maybe an online offer to those who already have Vol. 10 to get the DVD. Please? Otherwise, I'm sticking with my DAP copy of The Giant Gila Monster; screw the new extras, I'll see them through "other means". isn't it better to replace the one and have the complete set of four available for them, rather than putting out a new one by itself and making three whole other episodes unavailable? Except those weren't the only two options available. They could have re-released Vol 10 as a 3 disc set, or re-released it with one of the already released individual episodes in its place.

They'd earn points with MSTies everywhere and probably sell more copies that way, too. But, whatever. I'm clearly Rhino's b!tch, because I'm down to buy 10.2 even though I already own on V-10 just for "Gila" (which I haven't seen) and the new bonus feature. But there'd better be some damn good, entirely new cover art!

Man, Rhino was doing so well in the sin absolvement department, and now they go and pull a stunt like this?
If they offer "The Giant Gila Monster" as a single disc as well, then I'll be okay with this. But I'm not buying Volume 10 all over again - my fan copy of 402 will be enough, even without the special features.

Now I might actually buy the set, since it only has *one* episode that I already own. Being too cheap to buy it before actually payed off.

Damn it all, I actually GOT vol. 10!
C'mon Rhino, release just Giant Gila Monster by itself as well!

I wouldn't be surprised to see Rhino offer some sort of online single-disc Gila Monster deal for those of us who managed to buy Volume 10 when it was still out. Keep in mind that the set hasn't been officially announced in the form of a complete press release - this is SN giving us the inside scoop - so it's not like we should assume Rhino's not going to set up a special offer just because it didn't explicitly say so in SN's heads up. They've done free disc replacements in the past after all. I say wait on this. (In the meantime it probably wouldn't hurt to let Rhino know firmly but politely your sentiments.)
Personally I think a better solution to this problem would have been to just save Gila Monster for the next complete volume set to avoid all of the commotion. I understand the desire to not put the other three Volume 10 episodes "to waste" so to speak but you never know if the whole Godzilla issue won't clear up someday.

Ugh.
This is going to let Rhino know how big of saps we are and then all of the OOP box sets will get the same treatment.
They should have re-released it with one of the already released individual-release episodes, or one of the other episodes that has been forced out of print.
