This is awesome news. It's the only thing missing from my DVD collection.

Godo, do you just constantly hit refresh on mst3kinfo all day long? Haha, I kid, I kid! Actually, I never remember to look at their site. Never seemed like there was much for news the past 5 years - all I used to think of when I thought of the site was the daily revolving list of celebrity deaths, which didn't really excite me to go over there Course, now that there's so much going on again in the world of mst3k I should prolly check it out once in a while. I find these forums immensely more entertaining and useful though.

I find these forums immensely more entertaining and useful though. Nah, it's just one of the first stops I make on my daily "Internet Rounds". It starts with my e-mail, then the local and national news, then "Newsarama" (for unashamed comic book geeks like me). Then I usually finish up with a quick look at Satellite News. Let's face it, somehow they get the good info first, which leads me to believe they are fellow east coasters. Checking "Satellite News" daily is like playing a slot machine. Sometimes there's nothin', but every now and then, you get a nice reward which keeps you coming back again and again and again.

Well, this is unexpected. If it's not at a "deluxe" price, I'd definitely like to upgrade my VHS to a widescreen DVD. The articles cited said that the MSRP is going to be $19.98, so you're probably going to be able to get it online when it comes out for about 10 to 16 bucks. This is great news; I can finally replace my crappy VHS dub.

Hello, birthday gift!
It's kind of sad that they don't feel they could throw something - anything - our way in terms of bonus features. They could make a retrospective on MST, a featurette about filming, or one about "This Island Earth." I think my copy of "The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle" has more goodies than this DVD will have. I also believe that somebody somewhere has the deleted scenes, and he or she would rather just let us stew. It's not exactly a secret that we don't think much of Jim, so perhaps he's going to hold out on us. Then again, he should realize that the devoted fans will be willing to shell out for a deluxe release. I'd be willing to wait longer for the DVD (heck, I've waited this long!) if I knew it was going to be even more worth my while.

I bet those who payed 150 + bucks for the old one are wanting to kick their own butt right now.

I am thrilled. I had to cut back on watching the movie b/c the tape was starting to wear out!

Mallon says the deleted scenes are destroyed, so this is probably the most complete release we'll get. They burned the reel they played at that convention?

The Deleted scenes were the property of Universal Studios, who destroyed them. So yes, Universal (not Mallon) destroyed the reel they played at the convention.

Excellent! It's too bad about the archive footage, but I'm just glad they're getting it back out to us. If it happens, it really rounds out a year of good stuff.

While this is excellent news that Universal is finally rereleasing MST3k:TM (which I predicted back when they announced they were rereleasing THIS ISLAND EARTH), it's really a shame that they won't be putting the deleted scenes on there. They're so great, I think the storm shelter sequence is one of my all-time favorite MST segments!!
But I do find it hard to believe that Universal destroyed the deleted scenes, I think big studios stop doing that years ago. They may have just destroyed the video that BBI showed at the convention (so no MSTies had connections to get a direct copy of it!?).
Having the theatrical trailer is better than nothing, but would it cost Universal that much more even to throw on a video-ported time-coded copy of the deleted scenes & alternate ending (which, for the record, kicks the released-version-ending's ass)!?
