I just had a thought...
I hope Shout!Factory leaves the "Turn Down Your Lights" and "Reel One" bits on the show.
That frustrated me to no end with Rhino.

So, Rhino's out? Wow, what's it been? 10 years with Rhino? Weird.
I don't see how this is going to get episodes like Gamera or Earth vs The Spider or any other episode with complicated rights released. This is basically just a swap in distributors without anything clearly gained.

It's owned by the Arkoff Estate and is currently licensed to Lions Gate who put it and several other Nicholson/Arkoff titles to DVD.

I liked Shout's work on the SCTV boxed sets. I'm excited to see what they plan to do with MST3K.

Their press release makes it sound as if they're going to release EVERY episode which...as we know....would take a tremendous amount of effort and money.

Yeah. Every press release should be taken with a heaping helping of salt.

So Shout! isn't like a subsidiary of Rhino or anything? Wiki shows that it's owned or was started by a couple former head honchos with Rhino records. Anybody know?

Yeah. Every press release should be taken with a heaping helping of salt. Or Mrs. Dash, if you're watching your sodium intake.

I haven't really heard anything bad about Shout. The way I look at this press release is that it would be hard to do worse than Rhino. I'm not a Rhino basher, but they've been unremarkable at best in their releases. Pretty much the only ways Shout could do worse are by screwing up the video/audio (which I don't worry about at all) or being more expensive. Rhino already seemed to be pretty near the high end as far as prices go, so I doubt that Shout could really charge more and do much business.

Well . . some of Shouts releases have been on the high-end. With SCTV it had a lot to do with the cost being driven up by all the music-clearance costs.

Does it seem like they could be higher than Rhino's price and still do enough business? Well, There wouldn't be the same kind of music rights issue as w/ SCTV ( not as many per set anyway ), so I'd imagine cheaper. But they're quality has been top-notch , and extras among the best out there. I think this will turn out to be the right "marriage" . Yup . . I'll stand by that too.
