Thank you Mr. A for recommending this. What a great movie. I'm glad you liked it. Other than the music, which I thought was waaaay pretentious (in that indie-singer-songwriter-"I wish I was Eliot Smith" kinda way), I loved everything about the film. You know what else he was phenomenal in? Arrested Development.

Mrs. Atari and I went and saw this over the weekend. On paper, it looks like your standard after-school special or Lifetime crap. We went because we're huge Arrested Development fans, and it looked like that kind of humor; not to mention the chance to see Jason Bateman and Michael Cera in another project together. I have to say it was incredible. Every actor was great, the script was hilarious, and the emotion wasn't over-the-top. It had an "indie film" vibe to it, but it had more depth than most of that genre's drivel. It felt a lot like a Wes Anderson movie. In fact, I'd say Juno is basically Rushmore for women. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for something different, engrossing, and affecting in a movie. My only criticism is that it almost felt TOO much like a Wes Anderson film. Both with the "chapters" editing device and the annoyingly ostentatious quirky music. It was definitely funnier than a Wes Anderson movie.

I thought Bottle Rocket was incredibly funny.

I've never seen that one. Only Rushmore, The Royal Tenanbaums and The Life Aquatic. I learned my lesson and didn't see the Dejarling Limited.

Bottle Rocket and Royal Tenenbaums were great. The others, not so much.

Wes Anderson is a genius. In his first three films.
I'm undecided on the rest.

He relies too much on the "big cast of quirky characters".

Yeah, I like that, though. In the first three films, I think the characters work very well. I'm undecided about/haven't seen the most recent two.

LOVE Wes - Rushmore and Life Aquatic are 2 of my all time favorite flicks of all time . Bill Murray is my man and he always cracks me up. In that scene in Aquatic when he starts blowing away the bad guys, strange, out of the blue and funny! I also love his end scenes. Yeah I know he's doing the same thing over and over again. But so did Hitchcock, if you find your groove, work it until you can't.

Oh no, don't turn this into a Wes Anderson thread.
Finally saw Juno last night and I liked it. It seemed like the female vocalist in The Moldy Peaches was the executive producer though, with so much of her stuff utterly supersaturating the movie. Ellen Page seemed to play the same character as in Hard Candy, but Juno was much better so who cares.

I really liked it. It struck a cord because I was kind of that girl in high school... minus the being preggers, luckily. But I played in a band with my boyfriend too... Some of the music worked, some of it didn't. Belle and Sebastian was used well. I could also relate to Juno relating quite well to an older man but being naive about ulterior motives/feelings... The detail of the movie was fantastic. Juno and Bleeker's rooms, the lockers, Juno's stepmom's dog obsession- a lot of character identification comes in the art direction and you don't even notice it. I lurve that.

I had a friend rather AGGRESSIVELY recommend this film to me last night, which is strange for a number of reasons (we weren't talking about anything remotely related to it, and they saw it weeks ago but never said anything until now). I'm mildly interested in it, but I've gone to three movies in the last month and none of them were Juno. I think I'll wait until comes out on DVD/Pay-Per-View to check it out, myself.

Twice to see this for me. I'm taking friends, as many who will want to go. Loved the movie! But I wish the CD for the soundtrack had ALL the score, not just most of the songs.
