I'll take my lumps, but, I already conceded that the better team won. So, congratulations, sir. Thanks. I didn't mean my gloating to be in your direction. And I'm going to be a HUGE Steelers fan tomorrow. Not that it'll do any good...

When it comes to football announcers, there's no one worse than the Joe Theismann/Paul Maguire team. I kind of agree with that, but that leaves out that awful play-by-play guy who's on the same announce team, and he's the worst. The thing that's funny about Paul is that he seems to pick who his personal MVP is before every game, and point out fairly routine plays featuring that player, but he talks about them as if they're remarkable. One time his player of the day was Zach Thomas, and they ran some replay where Thomas just sorta shifted his feet aimlessly, before the play finally ended as someone else brought down the ball carrier several yards away. Paul made a huge deal about how hard Thomas was trying and how he never gave up the pursuit. Yeah Mike Patrick, can't get a players name right. When he called Brett Favre, "Brett McNair" I about lost it. He's a 3 time MVP, super bowl winning QB and you can't get the mans name right! I like when the Bears were on and Theisman was saying that it would be a mistake to put Grossman in (because the Orton was winning games) After the Bears offense woke up and started moving, suddenly Grossman is Joe's favorite QB and it was a great move to get him in the game... Nice back pedaling Joe. lol

You wanna talk about commentators? Here's a post about commentators. Right here. Watch this. Watch how I hit this post about commentators. BAM!
That's right, Paul. Yesterday at the hotel I talked to Atari about how he was going to post today, and he told me to watch out for the big hit. And boy did he come through. I think he's the best poster in the league right now.
That's a great point, Joe. It's always a pleasure to come out here and see Aratti perform. He played wide receiver in high school, and has a storied history on this board. Isn't that right, Suzie?
Shut up, Mike. I'm way too good for this gig. You try being a sideline reporter, dealing with cliches from coaches going into halftime and a drunken Joe Namath hitting on you. I am so going to CBS next year.
(with apologies to Bill Simmons for stealing his bit).

A couple quick things about the rules that I should clarify. 1- As long as you have the correct winners moving on, you get a point; even if you had the wrong opponent. 2- Like we did with the MLB Playoffs, later rounds will be worth more points. Championship games will be 2 points each, and the Super Bowl will be 4 points. So there is a maximum total of 16 points. This way, you have a chance if you still have one horse in the race. And once again, sorry to all of you misguided dopes who picked the Patriots to make it past the divisional round.

So I'm watching Pittsburgh totally dominate the Colts in the first quarter, and I'm thinking...
...why in the world do they bring a blimp to games in a dome?
And Dick Enberg is the best. He makes Dan Dierdorf sound almost professional. Just like he used to do with Merlin Olsen.

And once again, sorry to all of you misguided dopes who picked the Patriots to make it past the divisional round. OH YEAH?!?! Well, well, there's always next year! There, that should do it.Well, I'm out of this contest. If any team could do it, it was the Steelers. Maybe Cowher can finally win an AFC Championship game. And, once again, Manning can't get it done. Granted, he didn't blow the field so horrible that it never had a chance, nice going Vanderjerk. But, he's getting the John Elway/Dan Marino aura going. Elway beat it, maybe someday Manning will too.

Holy. Crap.
What an amazing game. I feel terrible for Tony Dungy.
I thought that fumble was the end. Jerome Bettis, meet Ernest Byner. But what dumb play calling for the Colts before that field goal. 2 passes to the end zone when you need 5 yards to help your kicker? Dumb.
And that overturned interception call? Polamalu got jobbed.

And that overturned interception call? Polamalu got jobbed. Hey, I used that one yesterday for the horrible pass interference call on Samuel. I only got to see the last bit of the game. I actually got home and tuned in just in time to see the Bettis fumble. Unbelievable finish, wish I could have seen the whole thing. And I agree, taking shots at the end zone is foolish in that situation. They had the timeouts, so work the field and get the yards.

And that overturned interception call? Polamalu got jobbed. Taking a page from Bill Walton, that call was the worst call in the history of the NFL and all of professional football. Thankfully, it didn't cost the Steelers the game, but it almost did. Matt

Well, I'm 0-2 on the day. And, like most people, my pick for the Super Bowl got reamed. Both, in fact.
But at least it was an entertaining day.

First, a couple notes.
1) Special mention to civlyzed & broadsword for picking Pittsburgh's upset. You should have gone to Vegas, guys.
2) Both GizmonicInstitute and SweetDreamer had the wrong matchups for this weekend's NFC games. You both picked the 4 participants correctly, but had Chicago beating Washington and Carolina beating Seattle. But I'm feeling gracious, so you'll get the point for Carolina, even though you split your vote on today's game.
UPDATED SCORES:
6 Points: barryjc15 broadsword
5 Points: GizmonicInstitute mummi civlyzed
4 Points: Ro-Matt SweetDreamer Mr. Atari MightyJack Melting Manos Mitchell Dave Walker
3 Points: Nunyerbiz KGB
1 Point: goflyers

I suck. As for the Colts. I didn't think they'd lose to the 6th seed at home. But I expected them to lose to Denver. Manning (going back to College) hasn't looked great in the post season and neither has Dungy (going back with Tampa) Maybe one day they'll shake that stigma - but they can go 16-0 and I still wont bet on them to go the Super Bowl. Carolina and the Seahawks match up well. It could go either way. I think the Broncos beat the Steelers. So I'm thinking Seahawks (hey, I'm a homer too) vs Broncos - Old time rivals battling for the Lombardi trophy. Classic - and Mr. A and I can talk smack all week. Go Hawks!

Yeah, I'm sure glad the Steelers won, but after that BS call reversing the interception and the Bettis fumble, I was sweatin'! Too bad I didn't have the foresight to put any money on it I also tried to get tix to next weeks game at Denver, but Ticketmaster sucks...after waiting in the cue for 15 minutes, nothing...I tried several times with no luck, then I checked stubhub and the cheapest ones were over $300. I'll be watching the AFC championship game from the comfort of my living room I guess...
