Who do you all think is the most incompetent cop in the movies pn MST, by cop I mean any law enforcement officer. There are a bunch of them. Some examples: the cops in Manos who constantly chase the smoochers and don't investigate gunshots. JDB characters who are pretty dispicable, the sheriff in Gila Monster who did nothing but bitch and moan and did no actual work save from hanging our with Chase. My pick would be the sheiff from Gila Monster. Chase and his buddies do all the work and he still manage to whine about how people are pushing him to, welll, do his job. That and he wouldn't shut up about the bloody skidmarks.

It’s gotta be Kelton the Cop from Bride of The Monster. (And Plan 9, and Night of The Ghouls, where he finally gets fed up with all the supernatural happenings going on around him and quits.)

Manos cops, hands down. Good topic question. There were a lot of cops in those movies. Honorable mention to the cowboy cop in Gunslinger who told his wife, "Don't worry. I'll take care of Erica Page!" then immediately got shot by her henchmen.

You know I don't remember Alan Hale as the sheriff in Giant Spider Invasion doing anything really competent in that movie so I think he counts too.

Speaking of Spiders, how about Sheriff Gary Busey from Earth vs. the Spider?
Oooor how about the same actor playing essentially the same character in Attack of the Giant Leaches? If only that guy had listed to the scientists in both movies he could have saved everyone a lot of trouble.

The cops from Red Zone Cuba.
About 6 of them were about to climb into a helicopter that was barely made for 2!

Were those two repulsive guys using the equipment to spy on kissing people in Eye Creatures cops? If so, they're not only incompetent but slimy also.

Cornjob - Gamera couldn't even help that guy! He's the cop who cares enough to shave your kids heads if they misbehave. What more could you want?

the sheriff in squirm leaps to mind - though he insisted he had a whole bleepdamned town to put back together after the terrible storm, we never saw him do anything but hang out at the diner or picking up skanks with spaghetti. ...look at my horrible teeth! then of course, there was the sheriff from the blood waters of doctor z: this guy literally did nothing. no, wait - he remembered about the crazy guy with a vendetta and the plan to start the half-man, half-fish army midway through the investigation, after several deaths. other than that, all he did was sit around on his ass and call that infuriatingly placid african-american guy "boy," who should have cleaned his clock many times. and lets not forget sheriff creepy from it lives by night. couldn't find a picture of him, unfortunately. although he did know from the start that johnny was the one responsible for the mysterious murders taking place, he still had a hard time doing much more than creeping out women and getting bitch slapped by a bat...of sorts.

I feel it must be said that Joe Don Baker's characters got their men and had a memorable theme song in both of their films. If that's not competence, I don't know what is.

The entire police force in Zombie Nightmare! Apparently anyone murdered in Canada is listed as a "drug-induced suicide"! Why couldn't that extremely annoying Medical Examiner have a "drug-induced suicide"?

Gila Monster Sheriff, definitely. He comes to mind every time, the big, useless whiney crybaby.
