I like sports and so I've decided to get into this whole blogging thing. This past week, there were two major sports stories:
Alex Rodriguez of the Yankees needs hip surgery. Or does he? Nobody is really saying anything, and yet this story won't go away. I mean, either he's going to have the surgery or he isn't. Personally, I think it would be better if he did, then he can recover and they will have him for the main part of the season. If he doesn't have the surgery and plays through the pain, well, he won't be as effective and that will hurt the Yankees in the long run.
The second major story was that the Dallas Cowboys cut Terrell Owens. He's very talented, but he's a huge jerk and he disrupts the chemistry of every team he's ever been on. He throws every quarterback he's had under the bus, from Jeff Garcia, to Donovan McNabb, to Tony Romo, and no matter where he ends up, he will do it again. Make no mistake, some team will pick him up(I hope it's NOT the Packers), but he won't be happy unless he is making all the plays.

TO is a cancer to whichever team thinks they can "handle" him. Hopefully the Redskins or Giants give him a shot.

It just came over ESPN News that TO signed with Buffalo. Now the Bills just need a QB. That should be really interesting.

I'm starting to scare myself: Sportscenter is reporting that A-Rod will have hip surgery and miss 6-9 weeks. They did say it was going to be some kind of arthroscopic surgery so after the season he may have to have another procedure.

The solution is simple, just give A-Rod more 'roids, that'll patch him up.

The really sad thing about A-Rod, and Barry Bonds too, for that matter, is that both of them are talented enough that they didn't need steroids in the first place. I read "Game Of Shadows" where the authors asserted that Bonds was jealous of the popularity of Mark McGwire and Sammy Sosa. It's a very interesting book, if that kind of thing interests you.

I'd also recommend the documentary Bigger, Stronger, Faster too.

In my opinion the news about A-Rod & steroids is the worst possible thing that could've happened to baseball. As horrible as it was when Bonds was breaking all the records, most of us took comfort in the fact that it didn't matter because A-Rod was going to eclipse him anyway. Finding out A-Rod did it too was crushing.

I totally agree with that. I know that I felt that way. Now, if I were the commissioner, I'd make the records 755 career HR's and 61 regular season HR's as the records. I would have a different section for the steroid era. I don't think that will happen, since Bud Selig was complicit in encouraging steroid use(at least he did nothing to stop it).

Of course, we don't want Mr. Snyder either! It's funny that all the players I didn't like in baseball keep showing up in accusations about taking steroids. Clemens, Bonds, Giambi....While my favorite player from the '90's, Ken Griffey Jr., seems very clean.

Jr. is a great player. He played for the White Sox for part of last year, and we were able to get his autograph. At one time, he was going to be the one who broke the HR record, but unfortunately injuries have slowed him down. i'm glad he's back with Seattle.

I hope the Mariners' first home game is televised nationally so people can see the reception Jr. gets. (Fat chance, though.) At the very least I'm sure it'll make all the highlight reels. Seattle loves him so much I wouldn't be surprised if he got a standing O every at bat this season. Even down here in Oregon we're all a-buzz with the return of Jr. to The House That Jr. Built.

Even though I'm not a Broncos fan, I've been following the whole Jay Cutler fiasco in Denver. Apparently Cutler doesn't want to be there. Personally, I think he's being stupid; the Broncos have a pretty decent team(although they need to get better on defense). It doesn't make sense for the Broncos to trade him and his record as a starter is only something like 11-17. He's been to one Pro Bowl but hasn't won any playoff games. He's getting a lot of interest. He should be careful what he wishes for, or he could wind up in Detroit playing for the Lions.

Huge excitement for the Bears in Chicago, they FINALLY have a quarterback. They got Jay Cutler from the Broncos on Thursday. They gave up a lot of draft picks and they also gave up Kyle Orton, who had the respect of the locker room. The Bears clearly had to do this, since they haven't had a good QB since Sid Luckman(back in the 1940's). But the Bears don't really have the receivers for Cutler to throw to.
This will make the Bears-Packers rivalry exciting again. When both teams are good, it's good for the rivalry and good for the league.

They also gave away all their receivers a couple of years ago, most of whom are doing well in other places. I'll believe it when I see it.
