Sports have always been that way. You've only got room for one starting QB on a team. Peyton missed all of last season and may never be the same. They're going to draft the best young QB coming out of college in many years. If this had come up 30, 40, 50 years ago, they'd have done the same thing. If not this year, then next year. Admittedly, one thing that is different from yesteryear: If Peyton didn't have that $28 million roster bonus due on the 8th, he never would've been cut loose. The new CBA wouldn't have made it impossible to have Luck and Manning on the same team.

I love baseball, but I really wish we could get the steroid mess cleaned up. Sadly, I don't think it will happen, but it saddens me that I personally can't enjoy the game as much, knowing that lots of guys cheated. I know everyone didn't cheat, but I think that lots of guys did. The shame of it is, guys like Alex Rodriguez, and Barry Bonds didn't need to cheat...they had talent coming out of their ears.

The NFL Draft is on TV today. I love watching the draft, especially the first round. I know, I know, most people find it boring but I enjoy it. My Packers got some help on defense in the first round, taking Datone Jones, from UCLA. Their second round pick was Eddie Lacy from Alabama, who should be their starting running back. That's what they need, to compliment Aaron Rodgers.
Other teams like the Jets, drafted another QB, Geno Smith. Now they have six QB's on their roster. That will just lead to more controversy. Chargers took Manti Te'o, who apparently is a question because of the way Alabama pushed him around in the national championship game and the whole "internet girlfriend" hoax. He should help them.
Not a whole lot of QB's were picked so far. Matt Barkley from USC went to the Eagles early today. The last couple rounds should be interesting.

I always called Rodriguez A-Fraud because of the shenanigans involving Boston and Texas, then the steroid information came out and I had a much better reason for the nickname.(my apologies for quoting this old post but I just discovered this thread) My mind boggles at what Rex Ryan(how did he keep his job anyway?) is up to with all these QBs for the Jets.

Yeah, Rex has gone insane, IMO. The Jets have so many needs, a QB is only one. But when they got Sanchez, they traded up to get him....but then they always had competition for him. They never really took time to develop him, or support him when things went bad.
As for A-Rod, I never wanted the Yankees to sign him, and now they are stuck with him, on top of all their other injuries and old players.

Maybe the Angels could take A-Rod off the Yankees hands.

The Nationals put Stephen Strasburg on the DL with a lat strain. I'm really thinking the Nats outsmarted themselves last year, by insisting that Strasburg only pitch in 200 innings. He missed the playoffs, and for the record, I think the Nats really had a shot to win the World Series last year.

I find it interesting that Jack Clark got fired for saying Albert Pujols used PED's. espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/9553275/albert-pujols-says-sue-jack-clark-false-accusationsClark was a teammate of Mark McGwire and played with other steroid users, so I should think he has some idea of what to look for. The sad thing is that he gets fired for saying what many people already think about Pujols and others. I personally think that baseball players have lost any and all credibility...too many of them have used, and guys you don't think used have. It's sad, but now if you follow baseball, you've got to wonder about pretty much everyone.

Wow, I thought the same thing. That the players doing it get to keep their jobs, like one Alex Rodriguez, and Jack Clark gets fired for saying something about it. And doesn't Pujols threat of suing remind you a wee bit of Lance Armstrong and Ryan Braun? If you are really innocent and can beyond a doubt prove it, then why sue the messenger?
I love baseball, but the arrogance of some of these players are ruining it.
The only good thing that's happened in baseball recently is Ken Griffey Jr. getting into the Seattle Mariners Hall of Fame. He's one of the few players over the last two decades I feel deserves a place in the Baseball Hall of Fame.

Don't get me started on A-Rod. I'm a Yankee fan, but I really don't like A-Rod at all. Last week went to see White Sox and Yankees and I booed every time that jerk came up. He should be banned for life and he's probably been using his whole career.

Yankees management wanted a lifetime ban so they didn't have to pay a red cent more of ARod's contract. That's something I as a Red Sox fan can't get behind, and it's my impression that Orioles fans agree wholeheartedly with Showalter's opinion on the matter.

As an Orioles fan I agree wholeheartedly. ;)Ah for the glory of a great closer goes our season...
Seeing what came out this morning about A-Rod's "cronies" maybe giving MLB the papers on Braun and his own teammate Cervelli just rankles my feathers. If true, his still playing this year is even more awful than most of us first thought. It just looks like they gave information on other players to deflect attention from A-Rod. The whole "I'm not to blame, look who else is doing it" syndrome looks to be strong with A-Rod.

That's what A-Rod does. He never accepts blame for anything, and He's NEVER been a team player, not in Seattle, not in Texas, and not with the Yankees either. When A-Rod first came to the Yanks, Jeter didn't want him or originally accept him. Somehow, they bridged their differences, but at this point, throwing other guys under the bus is going to leave A-Rod on an island. The players union probably can't support him if this is true(and frankly, it wouldn't surprise me if it was true. A-Rod has always lived in his own world). I just wonder what A-Rod had hoped to accomplish. I mean, since the other guys took their punishments and didn't appeal, why didn't A-Rod do the same thing? Surely he knew this would come up if he appealed the suspension.

I have difficulty understanding why Philbin is still employed by the Dolphins. At best, he was utterly clueless about a serious situation that boiled over with members of the team he coaches.
