The 2011 nominees were announced yesterday. It goes without saying that the R&R HOF is a joke. So who do you think is the biggest omission? I was very happy to see Genesis make it last year, and hoped that the progressive rock wing was finally open now. I guess I was wrong. Still no Rush? What a crock. Like them or not, their body of work is inarguably deserving. Other artists MIA? Cheap Trick comes to mind. 30+ years of the same 4 guys knocking it out of the park. Number 1 songs? Check. Multi-million selling albums? Check. Huge influence on bands that came after? Triple check. I was amazed to learn that KISS still isn't in. Ditto Joan Jett. No Steppenwolf either. This year's nominees include Bon Jovi, the Beastie Boys, Alice Cooper, and Tom Waits. Then again, so are Chic, Neil Diamond, and Donna Summer. Discuss.

Without a doubt the Alice Cooper band should be in. They were extremely influential in the seventies. Both to other bands and to me. As far as I'm concerned the rest are chopped liver. Especially that Jovi guy.

KISS not being in is massively stupid. They're just as influential in their way as Cheap Trick. But in a way the fans almost like it.
Cooper and the Beasties I can dig. Doctor John and the J Geils band are both cool too. I get Bon Jovi even if I rather see them die in a fire.
Some of the others are useless, or as usual make no sense. I like LL and Tom Waits, but their inclusion is goofy.

Are the Beasties rock and roll, I thought they were rap? Are other rap acts in the hall? Waits is great but is he rock?
Nice to see the Coop on the list, he deserves it.

Are the Beasties rock and roll, I thought they were rap? Are other rap acts in the hall? They're kind of all over the map, with a lot of actual studio instrumentals instead of constant straight sampling (you haven't lived until you've heard them play "Sabotage" live). I don't know if I'd call them rock, but I really wouldn't call them straight rap. Run-D.M.C. and Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five are already in, so rap is already breaking in. I can't wait to see Public Enemy and N.W.A up there. ;D

For the first ten years or so the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame was quite good. I had few issues with the inductees, A few years ago I bought a big DVD set of highlights of the ceremonies and there have been some great performances and interesting speeches, Mike Love's rant was classic. But the Hall is a business and they want people to pay to see the museum and they have to keep indicting, I mean inducting acts every year whether they're worthy or not, and many aren't. Of this years nominees Tom Waits is the best choice. He deserves it.

I'm the biggest Tom Waits fan but I can't really see why he's being included in terms of he's maybe not the sort of artist you'd expect. Still if he gives a speech at the ceremony it'll be the funniest one ever no doubt.
I'd guess they're probably holding off on a few of the big guns for future years.

One thing I've noticed is that Chic *always* seems to pop up on the nominees list, but never gets in (at least that's what I've noticed in the last 4-5 years). Judging from the list, if I had to choose 5 that I'd like to see go in, I'd go for the Beasties, Alice Cooper, Tom Waits, Dr. John, and Neil Diamond as the sorta darkhorse "wow, didn't see that pick coming" pick.

When are the Smiths gonna get in, that's what I want to know. Pretty much the only one on that list I'm happy about is Tom Waits.

The Way The Rock Hall Nominations Are...
Procol Harum will be in the Rock Hall...when Cleveland wins a Championship!
Why are Clevelanders miserable?!...We have a Rock Hall becoming the Non-Rock and Roll Hall of Shame!
They don't even have Frank Sinatra...who should be an Early Influence or a Non-Performer since he founded Reprise Records!

I think Cooper, Waits, Diamond, and the Beasties are the most likely. For the fifth spot, it could be Dr. John, it could be the J. Geils Band (one of the greatest live acts ever and my own personal choice) or maybe Joe Tex (a great R&B singer from the 1960s who doesn't get talked about much anymore). Who got snubbed? Three letters: SRV. But my biggest beef with the R&RHOF is this: Look at some of the previous inductees: Tom Petty AND the Heartbreakers Bob Seger AND the Silver Bullet Band Elvis Costello AND the Attractions Bruce Springsteen See what I'm getting at? Anyway, politics aside, I like to have fun with these things, and the actual induction ceremony tends to have at least one great moment.

I actually thought the E-Street Band went in by proxy with Bruce, but it appears I was wrong.

I'm really happy to see Tom Waits and Dr. John on this list. They deserve it most.
The other choices I can take or leave.

RnR HOF is such a joke I don't even pay attention to it any more.

Not just the people they have not put in is a joke but a lot of the acts that are in the HOF have no business being there because they have nothing to do with ROCK AND ROLL!!!
