Billy Idol's Sweet 16 - Lyrically it intrigued me and I was curious what it was about. Found out it was about the Coral Castle - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coral_CastleParts of "Wild Women of Wongo" was filmed there. "In Search Of..." with Leonard Nimoy dedicated a show to it (This is riffable, and dig that 'stache!) Who knew a simple pop song could lead me on such an interesting journey.

As I sit here "sampling" some Rush from the internet (thanks to Atari...I'm sure that Rush is happy that you're indirectly encouraging me), I thought of this song:
The most beautiful and sad song about the artists who suffer from illegal downloading.
It sounds like a "protest song" when I describe it like that, but it isn't. It's about the artist who, as she says, "is gonna do it anyway, even if it doesn't pay."
Best comeback to pirates (like me): "If there's somethin' that you wanna hear: you can sing it yourself."

^that's amazing - As much as I love experimenting in the studio there's nothing quite as beautiful as simple guitar work and voice done like that. Nice lyrics too.
Now that I've said that -- on the other side of the fence, here's a percussive number, one of my favorite songs and video

Just a taste of local New Haven favorites The Furors and their catchy 'Twistin' in the Wind'

Either they had to meet some kind of time constraint or it was just good drugs but this is a lot faster than their studio single. It's a bit of psychotic genius nonetheless.

Someone over at AGF turned me on to this soulful cover:

It's a bit of psychotic genius nonetheless. together and exciting! this vid did the rounds on my facebook page a few months ago (along with the patto, above) and everyone loved it, from my questionable soccer-hooligan metalhead friends to the 8-year-old daughters of my ultraconservative cowgirl friend from idaho. it's the perfect rock song. or at the very least, the best rock song ever to incorporate yodeling.

Okay this artist may not mean much to you if you didn't reside in Toronto in the '70's but this is still fun. Taken from the early days of City TV when it looked more like a local cable access show than the City-CHUM juggernaut it turned into.
Picture someone who looks like Glen Manning the Colossal Man and sings like Curly Howard crossed with Anthony Newley and you have Robbie Rox!
