Ladies and gentlemen......FRED BUROUGHS!
Nah, it's just Torgo, hosting my first contest in a few years, so this should be fun!
This particular contest has probably already been done, but it's what I was most interested in doing, so if it's stale, bite me. Just recently I had been watching quite a bit of darly MST and it seemed to me one of the concepts they originally had in the beginning that was never given the chance to blossom as the show went on was "Good Thing/Bad Thing." I can only imagine how funny these bits could have been once the writing got sharper. But it was dumped. Oh well.
So let's do some of our own! I challenge you all to watch an episode of the show and then come up with a good thing and a bad thing about the movie.
One solid rule: While you're allowed to use an episode where GT/BT is already featured, please do not just simply reuse the GT/BT from the episode.
There's also another...well, less of a rule and more of a preference, I'd like to see creativity, so simply saying stuff like "Good thing: It was short!" or "Bad thing: EVERYTHING!" while technically won't get you disqualified, won't get in my good graces, so your chances of winning will be slim.
And now the moment you folks have been waiting for, the entry that makes me laught the hardest/enjoy the most will gain the grand prize...
A RAMCHIP!
Or, should you choose, your choice of either 10 DVDs or 6 Blu-Rays of the MST episodes of your choice by our resident trademaster himself, skyronitor! Can't get any better than that, folks!
And remember, no limitation on entries. Watch as much MST as you can and Good Thing/Bad Thing the hell out of this thread!
Winner will be selected in two weeks. Have fun, you kids!

Okay....I'll bite! Here goes.....
GAMERA VS. BARAGON Good Thing - No Kenny monsters Bad Thing - Not enough Gamera Monster (though, quite frankly, the whinny Kennies make the Gamera flicks more fun from a goofy, MST3K-riffing point of view, hence my 'meh' feeling over this film).
TEENAGERS FROM OUTER SPACE Good Thing - Derek was so cute, sweet, kind-hearted & likeable Bad Thing - The Gargon was a stupid LOBSTER!
THE GIANT GILA MONSTER Good Thing - As a ditty for a small child, "The Mushroom Song" is heartwarming. Bad Thing - As a teen scream pop tune, "The Mushroom Song" is mindblowingly stupid.
THE EYE CREATURES Good Thing - The Geezer, Greasy Sweater-Dress Guy & Leopard Print Robe Commander Guy have comedic potential. Bad Thing - The Military Peeper Guys.
DADDY-O Good Thing - John Williams' music. Bad Thing - Dick Contino's music.
HOBGOBLINS Good Thing - The Hobgoblins! Frankie! Sniffles! Bounce-Bounce! The Claw! They're totally fake but they're so cute! Bad Thing - That......thing......that almost tempted Phone-Sex Dork Kyle into an early grave.

I know I haven't posted in a while, but I'll give it a shot.
HAMLET Good Thing The fact that the movie downplayed the potential Oedipal subtext between Hamlet and his mom - ew. Bad Thing The railings on the set were vastly underused. With a body count like Hamlet has, there should have been at least one railing kill.
JACK FROST Good Thing The movie taught us that if you are beautiful and mild-mannered, evil Russian women will abuse you until mythological god-like characters intervene on your behalf. Even if they kinda-kill you, you'll get better and will be betrothed to a beefeater. Bad Thing It didn't do nearly enough to describe the delicate balance of Russo-Finnish relations in the context of the early 1960s.
THE BEATNIKS Good Thing Getting to play "I Spy Paul Frees" Bad Thing Those are some of the squarest beatniks around. The 30 seconds that David Hyde Pierce wore a beret in "Down With Love" made him a more convincing beatnik.

Fire Maidens from Outer space Good Thing: The ladies had, IMO, nice outfits Bad Thing: So, so much padding
Hobgoblins Good Thing: Some of the jokes had potential Bad Thing: Everything bad about the '80s, rolled into one, disgusting abomination
Santa Claus Good Thing: It seems that the film makers were trying to make it meaningful and heartwarming, especially with the Lupita subplot Bad Thing: The creepy as heck reindeer
Jack Frost Good Thing: Had surprisingly good scenery Bad Thing: The icky Nastinka/Ivan relationship

A good thing about the movie Santa Claus (aka Mexican Santa Claus) was the precious Lupita who, after an entire movie of suffering and proving her inner goodness, finally got her one life's wish of owning "a dolly, any dolly."
... a bad thing is that Santa, with all his powers, can't help improve the economic conditions of Lupita's family! Sure, her parents are happy for her now, but in a few weeks when the rent money's due that snazzy, 3-foot-tall doll will look pawn-able! Why can't Santa, with all his technological marvels, give Mr. Lupita the patent to something like the electronic ear or the dream machine? Major world governments would pay through the nose for either. Okay, okay, I suppose that would do some damage to the outside world and maybe Santa's forbidden from such meddling, but perhaps he could have done something more practica, like put in a good word with that rich kid's parents (they owe him!) and get Mr. Lupita a job at the factory that's the source of their family's vast wealth? The possibilities are endless!

MANOS: THE HANDS OF FATE
GOOD THING - Crow: "I know, I know, you can never have too many brides...oh, no, wait..."
BAD THING - Tom Servo: "Torgo's knees. I mean, what are in those things anyway?"
Gypsy: "Richard Basehart!"

Merlin's Shop Good Thing-The Ub Werks cartoons playing on the TV.
Bad Thing-Borgnine regulated to just a narrator and yet still gets top billing.
Zombie Nightmare Good Thing-MOTORHEAD!!!!! YEAH LEMMY!!!!
Bad Thing-Jon Mikl Thor.
Time of the Apes Good Thing-It left me in the mood for some ice cream when the movie ended.
Bad Thing-Godo getting the shaft and being left on a desert planet.

A bad thing about I Was A Teenage Werewolf was what a downer the central premise is: Micheal Landon isn't a bad guy, and doesn't want to be a bad guy. His anger issues are a legitimate mental problem. When he concedes to get help it's because he cares about his friends and girlfriend and doesn't want to hurt them. It's the right thing to do - and what does he get for it? The psychologist is of all things a damned mad scientist who turns him into a werewolf, which if any thing exacerbates Micheal's central problem!
A good thing about the film is that I never knew teen psychologist is an acceptable "bill paying" career for the budding mad scientist... just, you know, until your mad sciencing really takes off.

The possibilities are endless! Yeah, when Lupita's Dad arrives home after searching for work, he sould have been beaming, he embraces his wife & family and then....produces a DOLL! He then states that he has a new apprenticeship at some carpentry/craftsman type job (he had a workbench, after all) & his new employer is a good man who gave a Christmas advance, which the Father put towards the new doll! They all embrace, Lupita thanks Santa out the window like in the real movie, Mom & Dad join her...."Thank you Jesus...on this night of Your Nativity" mutters Dad softly as Mom make The Sign Of The Cross. THAT'S HOW IT SHOULD HAVE ENDED!!! Y'know, sometimes I look at these crappy films & imagine how I would change the story and make them better. Weird, huh? Anyone ever do that?

SANTA CLAUS Good Thing - Sweet Lupita & her aggressive cuteness! Bad Thing - Santa's spooky Widgets Of Mass Paranoia!
PROJECT MOONBASE Good Thing - A woman is POTUS!!! Bad Thing - Women in general, especially Colonel Bretis, are trashed as a gender. (If I were Bretis, I would've quit being a bimbo & shove my douchebag new hubby outside sans spacesuit....Followed by watching 9 To 5 with a pint of Ben & Jerry's!)
WILD REBELS Good Thing - Linda's seems to be a pretty decently acted character. Bad Thing - The stupidest LAW ENFORCEMENT KNOWN TO HUMANITY! They do nothing about the three poor pummeled preppies or the Gun Shop/Turd Museum/Bait Shop owner....The cops know nothing of ducking, can't pull off a roadblock to save their lives & get all their cars from Grandma & are headed up by a pair of Spiro Agnew clones who eat "Nose Donuts" with "Bavarian Mint" coffee. Compared to these guys, The Keystone Kops are the Mission Impossible team!!!
THE BEAST OF YUCCA FLATS Good Thing - Judging by the poster & DVD box art, it looks like another fun sci-fi/horror "Atomic Mutation" camp-fest. Bad Thing - It's just another grim, quasi-realistic, violent, existential, slow, boring, grim, glum, nihilistic, depressing snoozefest from Coleman Francis.

Just randomly throwing out episodes here:
Hellcats Good Thing: The Hellcats looked appropriately run down for a drug-dealing biker gang. Bad Thing: THAT'S what they're able to get right??
Teenagers From Outer Space Good Thing: Betty is just so damn cute and sweet that I just want to eat her right up! Bad Thing: Derek appears to be on heroin the entire time.
The Final Sacrifice Good Thing: Rugged, wild and woolly southwestern Alberta, baby, where you can fire off semi-automatics and light villains on fire and no one ever comes to investigate. Bad Thing: The sadomasochists' uniform black outfits like, totally, didn't match and stuff.
Future War Good Thing: Sister I-Have-Enough-On-My-Mind-Already was hilarious. Bad Thing: The Grunting.
Beast of Yucca Flats Good Thing: The music was evocative. Bad Thing: REALLY?[/b]
Skydivers Good Thing: Beth, Beth, Beth. Bad Thing: Anyone and anything in a scene with Beth.
Rocket Attack USA Good Thing: Art Metrano's sunny disposition! Bad Thing: Cheese price supports callously blamed for nuclear holocaust.
Sidehackers Good Thing: Paisley's outfits. Bad Thing: Aside from the obvious; Crapout, just... Crapout.
The Human Duplicators Good Thing: Delores Faith: VA VA VOOOM! Bad Thing: The interior design of Dr. Dorfendinger-or-whatever-the-hell-his-name-was's house gave me a massive headache.
The Indestructible Man Good Thing: Pretty cool shots of vintage Los Angeles. Bad Thing: Casey Adams' smugly smug smugness.
Robot Monster Good Thing: Alice isn't quite as useless as one expects from movies of this era. Bad Thing: The Billion Bubble Machine wasn't showcased as much as its credit suggested it would be.
Puma Man Good Thing: Donald Pleasence's funky wardrobe. Bad Thing: Donald Pleasence's funky diction.
King Dinosaur Good Thing: Joey The Kinkajou was awfully cute. Bad Thing: HOLY CRAP DID YOU SEE HOW MUCH OF AN ASS THAT LEAD SCIENTIST WAS? (Edit: Actually, each scientist was appalling in his/her own way, but the lead guy was the most belligerent ass out of the four of them)
I'm all out of love.
