Someone told me I should hate them. But I know jack about them. Expound, por favor.

i've liked what little i've heard. it's sorta laid back, mobyish, radioheadish, but not as clever. i could be totally wrong, though.

Some of their songs are good, but I absolutely hate Clocks which sadly is their most well known song.

They write great melodies, and they have a good sense of songwriting and arranging. They get a lot of crap for how obviously derivative they are (Radiohead lite with U2's tricks). I liked their first and third albums a lot ("Parachutes" and "X & Y"), but the more albums they release, the more they sound like a one-trick soft-rock cliche.
My take is that there's nothing cutting edge about them, but they're respectably talented. There are a lot of popular acts out there that are much worse and far more deserving of the hate.

Many years ago, I saw them play in a little club in Chicago before they'd really made it in the States. (I'd read a lot about them in "Melody Maker"--if anybody remembers that).
First album--Excellent. Second album--Had it's moments. The rest--Pass.

I agree their first album was brilliant, everything else has been middling to good with some individual songs. They're a decent band and in noi way deserving of the hatred they get thrown at them. I think it's the in thing to say you don't like them.
