Hmmm... you know, we wouldn't necessarily need a follow-up show to have a numeric title. Like, if the reboot happened in the nineties I might suggest something like MSTXR. Or if it happened ten years ago, I might've called it eMST. Or... five years ago, maybe iMST. I'm not sure what'd be a good trendy title nowadays.

Too trendy for MST3K. I would go with something more like MST4K.
Or 3001 as someone already mentioned or 3010, although not as easy to abbreviate.

For continuity, it would be best to get a cameo or two from the old cast, if possible. There are two former hosts and six former mads. Getting them all back in one show would be a waste of time. Since we know that the new mad is Traces character's daughter, getting Trace and Frank for cameo's would be best. Part time writers would be great, if they would be willing to pay them what they are worth.
First show, second skit. Flashback. New mad scientist standing in the old deep 13 with cobwebs all around. She calls Frank. Frank says he got bored in the land of the sidekicks. He came back and borrowed money from Gypsy and founded Mad Scientist Inc. He is now the second richest man in the world but no one knows it because he's EVIL, EVIL, EVIL! She asks Uncle Frank if she can borrow a billion dollars and he says, sure honey.
We learn that she never met her father and her image of her father has nothing to do with reality.
Later episode. Another flashback. This time with Trace showing two versions of Dr. Forester and his college girlfriend.
Sketch one, the new mads image of her father and mother: Trace with his lab coat and a cheesy Radar Men from the Moon rocket pack on his back flies using cheesy green screen and punches out a guy who looks kind of like Superman. A woman runs into his arms, "my super villain saved me."
Sketch two, what really happened: Trace is siting in a dorm room at the Evil Scientist institute writing a paper. A woman's voice comes from the next room over, "Clayton, have you finished my term paper yet?" "Yes, honey." "Then come to bed, I need you." "Yes, dear."

Mark my words: It's going to be another horrible reboot of something that was good the first time.
When will people learn to leave well enough alone? You can't bring it back to it's former glory. It's dead and buried. Anything you try to start up again is going to be horrible. It doesn't matter that Joel will have some hand in it. It's not going to be MST3k. It's going to be "A new, horrible MST3k remake 17 years later".
I'm assuming you have seen the train wreck of a picture they have up on the kickstarter page. The unshaven manchild hipster in the jumpsuit makes me cringe. And it has somebody trying to look like TV's Frank for Godzilla's sake!!!

I'll take that as a "not enthusiastic about Season 11", then.

I'll take that as a "not enthusiastic about Season 11", then. It's not "season 11". It's an entirely new show. This isn't like the change from CC to SF where it was within a year's time where it's ok to view it as the show continuing despite major plot changes in regards to Dr F/Pearl. Yes, the host segments/plot did matter since it helped emerge you into the idea that Joel/Mike were trapped in space and forced to watch bad movies. This is apparent at times in some rifftrax when they act miserable about watching the movie.. when you have it in the back of your mind that they are CHOOSING to watch the movie. At least Cinematic Titanic sorta tried to address that loosely. If Joel or Mike aren't doing the riffing with Josh, Kevin, Trace or Bill as the bots then it's not MST3k. Plus this all seems so... forced. It's not dumb luck of the success of MST3k as a low budget local TV show that was good enough that a new cable channel picked it up. This is just... sad. Begging for money to reboot a long dead TV show that already died 3 times. It died on KTMA (they weren't going to do anymore but then it got picked up by CC), it died on CC, then it died on SF. Cinematic Titanic would have been a MUCH better vehicle for Joel to continue riffing bad movies, if that's what he wants to do, not try to dug up the rotted corpse of MST3k and stick new people into similar roles. That's not continuing the same show. That's a new show. It's impossible to continue the old show, even if you stuck Mike in a jumpsuit and put him on a new satellite of love with Servo and Crow. It's been too long to try to justify saying it's a continuation. (Much like George Lucas did with Star Wars... between 1983 and 1999; even if the ones since have been "prequels". ugh. Just a way to beat a dead horse) Odds are, I will hate "The New MST3k" right out of the gate, simply out of experience from hating all Rifftrax with anyone other than Mike, Kevin and Bill; with an exception for the recent ones with Bridget and Mary Jo. But those with the "guest" riffers are crap. In fact I can't even find those on rifftrax.com anymore. Did they get deleted because they were so horrible?

To be fair though both Joel and Paul Chaplin will be working on it, and Hampton has already proven himself as being one hell of a good Crow....ontop of that some talented people will be working on it so it's not like there's nothing to hang your hat on with regards to it.

Doesn't matter if they work in the background. It's still a new show being made for all the wrong reasons.

I'm pretty sure Joel sees it as a labour of love, if you ask me that is the right reason to bring it back. Even if it does suck like you say it will, it's down to the creator to say what is or isn't part of his show. I know I am going to remain open minded about it until it's here to be judged on it's own merits.

You know what makes my stomach turn? People who insist on making judgments without even giving the show the time of day. It hasn't even begun production yet, but people are haranguing about as if this revival is some sort of devilish plot to bring back something horrible, when in fact, it's not. Clearly if this is a waste of time, the show would not have made its funding goal. I think certain individuals underestimate the power of crowd-funding and success. MST3K seems to be one of those shows that always get the short end of the stick, and get canceled for no reason.
You know what a pointless, dead revival is? A prime example is Fuller House. Full House is dead and buried but people insist of bringing it back. Nobody asked for it. None of the fans put their hard earned money into it to give it life. MST3K has proven to be a cult classic show. Whether it will be funny and recapture the charm remains to be seen, but to classify it in any negative form BEFORE anything airs is truly pathetic, and those that do shouldn't call themselves a MST3K fan.

I would tend to agree. Cubey's POV is actually kind of making my blood boil a bit, and I'm pretty lukewarm on the idea of a reboot myself...but I realize it is a timeless concept and could be very funny on its own. I'm also of the mindset to not expect it to be anything like it used to be (and honestly should it be? I think not.) If it swims, great, if it sinks, oh well, just another failed rebranding. No biggie. Nothing's legacy has been ruined by spin-offs or reboots. Joel clearly wants to do this for the fans...I think it'd be a lot different if say Mallon was behind this, and it was a clear cash grab, but Joel clearly is invested in this for the right reasons, and that's probably the biggest reason for me to get behind the idea.

While I don't agree with Cubey's aggressive pre-judgmental opinion, I see his point of view. In his posts he clearly states that he's a purist for only the people involved in the original series, even going as far as to call the non-Mike/Kevin/Bill Rifftrax "garbage." Personally I find that not true. While I haven't heard a lot of them, I've enjoyed the ones I have heard, and personally think the Rifftrax Presents riff of Jaws III to be superior to our guys' riff of the original Jaws.
But if you're only humorously attracted to the guys who have already proven themselves, then it's REALLY hard to get into something new. I'm a bit of a comedy snob myself, which is the one genre that struggles to maintain my attention in contemporary entertainment. I prefer the classics like Buster Keaton, The Three Stooges, Charlie Chaplin, Lucille Ball, Abbott and Costello, ect, ect. I had a group of work friends want to get together and go see The Night Before this week, and I unfortunately turned them down, because I just really don't enjoy movies like that. Though I told them to have a good time without me, because it's fine if they do.
There's really no reason to be angry about the idea of a reboot though. If it breathes life into the franchise, then fantastic. If it doesn't, too bad. I always have the old show. I'm willing to see what these guys have though.
