So, it looks like my PBS affiliate is one of the ones that's starting to show MST3K at night. I finally caught an episode last night, but was so sleepy that it was hard to watch even though it was one I've never seen before. Effectively, I can cross Posture Pals off my list of things to watch, but not The Unearthly. And I was so looking forward to seeing Tor Johnson's infamous Time For Go To Bed moment just to get the context (assuming context makes any difference, even.)
Anyone else fortunate enough to have it airing on their local PBS stations?

Heh, I recently reviewed "The Unearthly" for my reviews over at the Rowsdower's Reviews forum. Man, that episode's a slog to get through, but the shorts are funny.

WTTW in Chicago shows them on Saturday nights. So far, I've seen "Gunslinger", "Manos: The Hands Of Fate" and of course, "The Unearthly". I guess I'm going to have to get their tote bag and donate some money.

in regards to the episode- "The Unearthly"- i've seen about half of it, unable to finish based on the general dreariness and tediousness of the film. I'm also a youngerish fan(in my 20's) and often find Joel episodes abstruse based on references i don't understand. Sometimes feel like i'm not in on the joke.
But do hope PBS continues to broadcast episodes.

Season 4 is the point where i think they started getting consistently good, not really having any dud episodes until Season 6.

Fair enough, but I also happen to find the first three episodes of season 3 pretty good. And I'm not entirely sure why- perhaps because those episodes didn't rely on topical pop culture jokes( or perhaps i just didn't notice). I can watch ep 301 Cave Dwellers consistently, and still regard it as hilarious, yet most of the Joel era episodes, I cannot. It undoubtedly stems from the idea that when i was introduced to the show, and subsequently intrigued, was during the "Mike" era in the mid 90's. And as a true fan, i attempted to go back and watch the episodes that preceded my indoctrination. But I just can't quite get into them- barring a few gems.

No listings for MST3K for the PBS stations I have, WGBH, WGBX, and WENH (Channels 2 and 44 in Boston and channel 11 in New Hampshire).

I was told that it was happening a week before I had an actual chance to try watching it. I'll hopefully fare better this weekend.

D'ahh, c'mon, ya lightweights. (;^> The Unearthly is one of my all-time faves, and not just for Tor Johnson's immortal "Time for go to bed!".
If you ask me, it's the short Appreciating Your Parents that comes dangerously close to dragging the whole episode down -- not because of Joel'n'the Bots' performance, but because that short is so grindingly tedious and monotonous that it comes close to putting me to sleep before they can get on to the grim, dark, hilarious glory that IS The Unearthly.
Honest, gang; I can't possibly be the only one out here who thinks The Unearthly is pure friggin' gold.

I'm not sure if it's on in the NJ area. Given that two of the three PBS channels on my cable system (NJTV from New Jersey, and WLIW from Long Island) are pretty much wholly-owned subsidiaries of the third (WNET, New York), if it's on one, it might be on all three. I'll have to check.
I just hope, if it's on, they don't jam in four or five pledge breaks during the show. It just drove me up the wall the way they did that during "Monty Python" back in the day.

It's not that I didn't like it so much as it's that I fell asleep during it. It was on at 12:30 AM and it was, well... time for go to bed, I guess.

I can definitely say that I liked the shorts. They were whimsical. (And fresh, considering it was a first viewing.) I can see how one of them might grow stale with time, though.

After many, many viewings, I learned to love Appreciating Your Parents, although I still find it rather dry compared to Posture Pals, which is an absolute stitch. Perhaps they could've worked up to The Unearthly better by starting with Appreciating Your Parents, but that's just me.
