From interviews with Joel, he seems pretty gung ho on using more recent movies that can use the new widescreen format, so we probably won't see an old black and white B-movie for a while.

Joel has also said they won't use public domain films. I assume if they end up somewhere between funding goals, less than what they say it takes to make an episode, they might get a PD film. There are so many bad films that it's hard to guess.

I would really like to see some cheeseball 80s action flicks, like American Chinatown from 1996 (Z'Dar is in it!) or Enter The Ninja from 1981. I always loved stuff from the series and it's a genre they didn't do enough of in my opinion.

Maybe a possible episode list will be released as one of the final Kickstarter updates to get us across the $5.5 million mark. As it is there's practically an infinite number of movies to chose from.

I also would like to see them take on some more 80s cheese. Riffing on another Ator film would be perfect!

Some martial arts movies wouldn't hurt. the original show lacked in that though Rifftrax and CT did make up for it(with Rifftrax even doing a Bruce Lee film)

I like the failed TV pilots or lesser known TV series (Master Ninja, Manhut in Space, etc). Those should be cheap to get as well...

I know of a lot of terrible movies, but most of them wouldn't work because of the MST3K's PGish rating. Somebody else mentioned R.OT.O.R. Even though Rifftrax has done it, that would be a good choice. I was thinking about Konga the other day as a possible film.

I vote for Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge (1989). It's '80s slasher cheese at its finest - plus Morgan Fairchild plays the mayor and Pauly Shore has a small role! I remember seeing this in the middle of the night on our FOX affiliate in the early '90s.

But if I were to suggest a movie, if they could get it I'd recommend Mortal Kombat: Annihilation. It's owned by a big studio, but it would be worth paying for to see it on the show (always surprised Rifftrax never tried doing this one).

I'll admit I'm worried about Season 11. Not because of the new cast or changes to the format or feel. But because of the Phantom Rule ("One's enjoyment of the film affects one's enjoyment of the episode"). Any new MST is going to be great MST, but sooooo much depends on the movie choices. And I'm worried because the movie choices for Cinematic Titanic were very unappealing to me; so much so that I rarely enjoyed CT at all. They were ugly films, with more horror elements and just plain nastiness (in everything from plot to effects to color palette) than any of the original run of MSTed films (Incredibly Strange... and Squirm notwithstanding).
If Joel continues on that path and picks films in the vein of The Oozing Skull or Legacy of Blood or Frankenstein's Castle of Freaks or Blood of the Vampires, it's going to be a big disappointment for me. My hope is that he goes back to the types of films that made MST feel like MST-- teenage rebellion, giant monsters, sword & sandal, or my favorite: '70s & '80s made-for-TV schlock.
Kickstarter's great, Felicia Day is great, new faces and "next generation" changes are great. But in the end, I fear the movie choices could make or break this for me.

If it makes you feel better, Samptari, a new Mystery Science Theater most likely has to be diverse if they want a long run. The thing about Cinematic Titanic is that they were limited to three releases a year, and since their output was so small I believe they were looking into the darkest corners of cinema for the most out there and WTF movies they could find. While I don't necessarily agree that this stylistic choice hurt Cinematic Titanic, I do agree that with the viewpoint that these type of movies can be unappealing and monotonous after a while. Though they did do something delightfully goofy like Santa Claus Conquers the Martians and Doomsday Machine every once in a while. Though we must also deduce that Cinematic Titanic was also untethered by a relation to a TV network and were a series of DVDs aimed at adult fans turned a live stand up act, which is not what Joel and Shout are shooting for with this project. It's very feasible that in trying to be broadcast again they're going to want to go family friendly again (for the most part). There's always going to be that weird godawful movie that pops up every once in a while, but I don't think it will be every episode. I imagine Joel's initially seeking out a certain kind of movie is going to find a movie that "looks good" for a while, so he can play with the new widescreen HD format. I imagine if might feel a lot like the first nine episodes of the Sci-Fi run (or the majority of the first Comedy Channel season for that matter), which for the most part felt very similar (some better than others). After a while they're going to get experimental and play with different things. We'll see black and white goofballs, silly melodramas, and even a monstrosity like Monster A-Go-Go or Manos. I think this is inevitable.

Another film I thought of that could work is the horrendous ET ripoff Nukie. It's never been released on DVD, so I don't know what the rights issues are like. The movie itself is probably worse than Manos. At least Manos has Torgo.
