Yeah, I can easily see either of those two things happening. Although B isn't resolved by increasing the price (unless they're just hoping that anyone's credit card would be declined). I know Ivan said that they needed to set a sale price but you're always supposed to idiot proof products I think they could have found some way to disable sales or at least make it look less like they're trying to grab so much money for them this late. There is probably some technical reason they can't disable sales entirely. They added the following to the rewards page this morning:

Sampo is a bit salty/curmudgeonly in my experience, and Erhardt hardly contributes anymore. They seem to do the least amount of work possible nowadays, which didn't use to be the case. I'm surprised they haven't turned it over to younger/more interested people yet. But the lack of update regarding the KTMA episodes (the biggest thing to happen to MST3K outside of the revival) is a big red flag regarding their ethos nowadays regarding news. When the Kickstarter launched, they could barely muster any enthusiasm and hardly seemed like they wanted to update about it at all, and pointedly made it known that they wouldn't be updating with each new funding threshold or casting announcement. Someone asked Sampo about the new KTMA shows in a comment to yesterday's "This Date in MSTory" post (which has since been rotated out), and he said in effect that he hasn't posted anything about them yet because Joel has stated in the past that he doesn't want backer-exclusive content and news to be shared publicly. I understand that concern, but if you look at Joel's Kickstarter update which announced the KTMA shows, you'll see that he opened it for everyone, not just for the backers, so the news is already out there. Sampo said that he's been spreading the word to other MSTies while waiting to get official permission to post an announcement, so I can only assume that he'll do so when he gets it. In a way, I can understand the lack of recent updates on Satellite News. The original show has been off the air since 1999, and after a certain point, I'm sure it gets hard to find new things to say about it. Sampo and Erhardt have been maintaining the site for who knows how long, and with the new MST3K series now in production, they may simply not be in a place where they want to take on all the extra work that will come with it. Or, they may have issues with the direction Joel has taken the new series, and have decided to keep the old separate from the new because of that. (This is all speculation on my part, of course.)

I just saw both episodes today (had some minor downloading issues with K02 but who cares about that). Now for my 5 cents!
Gotta say those two movies were hardly coherent, but that’s pure course with editing a bunch of episodes together, and the novelty factor of seeing marionettes in spaceships wore out after the second round. Still, you gotta admire the craftsmanship Gerry Anderson put into making a believable world inherited by puppets, even if they can come off as creepy.
The riffing is what you’d expect from the KTMA’s, though I noticed in K02 there were lot of dead space where there weren’t any jokes made, in contrast to K01 where the jokes fired at a fairly regular pace. I also found it odd that Joel would eat popcorn during a segment of both movies. It’s appropriate but his munchings are kinda distracting.
I found it fascinating that Trace couldn’t make it for the first episode and Josh had no trouble voicing Crow. The segments are obviously a redo of the pilot’s with a few minor alterations, though if you ask me the pilot executed the Silent Running spoof better. I believe that Joel didn’t decide on switching Beeper to Servo until the filming of the second episode, just to give Josh a speaking role.
Now all we need is K03 and our lives will be… partially complete.

That's a misinterpretation so massive it's almost kind of hilarious. Joel wouldn't have dropped this bomb and have NOT expected it to be big news in our community. Discussing the episodes is fine, Joel's comment only becomes relevant to this situation if they stream it on the damn site. Besides, what's going to happen to Cornell's episode guide when KTMA rolls around. "Classified material. These episodes are still lost." Now I understand Chris's life doesn't revolve around MST, and I understand he has a dayjob, but his excuse is nonsense and beating around the bush. The fact that Jonah, Baron, Hampton, Felicia, and Patton joined the cast and our new head writer were all announced in an update and he had no problem reporting those. But god forbid something overshadow the exclusive scoop of "Weekend Discussion Thread: The MSTie 'Abbey Road' Cover."

I'm willing to bet that they were comfortable with the relative ease of updating an MST3K news site when MST3K news was simply updates on cast member projects and DVD releases. I'll bet they aren't feeling so passionate about reporting all the incoming details lately, and being told what they can and can't report by official show entities is probably enough to make them feel a tad bitter about it. If their title as the OFFICIAL MST3K fan site means anything, that means they have to play ball.
Who knows what could be going on behind the scenes. It's amazing that they've been this devoted for this long. They don't owe us anything. Let's not call them lazy. If you wanna call somebody lazy, call me lazy! Why, I'm so lazy that I

That's also assuming (and while I think this could be obvious, take it with a grain of salt) he donated to kickstarter and actually has access to the episodes (unless someone gave them via trading/they eventually become available to everyone).

I would absolutely understand if he messaged Joel or anybody at Shout whether or not he could share the news on the website and and they said "No." But I highly doubt that's what happened. It certainly seems like he made a faulty assumption based on lackluster evidence, which actually is a bit lazy. But I have no idea what's going on, which would be an assumption on my part based on little evidence so that would be hypocritical of me. I can, however, criticze the lack of action. And I will.

The reaction from Satellite News on the revival effort has been lukewarm, at best, from the very beginning. There are fans out there - including board members here - who still aren't on board with the new season, citing the show as too sacred to be touched at this point. I kind of got the feeling that was their position, as well, though I absolutely don't know.
It is weird to think a site that has been so on-point with news and episode guides over the years wouldn't report the release of K01 and K02, though.

I don't really know or care what their stance on the series coming back is. That's their own personal opinion and I can respect it. But whatever they feel about the new season it should have no bearing on this news because it's related primarily to the original series. So honestly I don't buy that it isn't being reported due to apathy toward the new series. Because if it is, then that's just silly.

One of the things that I fear is that Satellite News might end up getting marginalized with the new season coming out. Shout! has already set up a better web presence for the brand than the one Jim Mallon attempted. It's very likely that the official fan site won't be as important to the series now that the property is being managed by more than a few people in Minnesota.

I noticed the extreme lack of enthusiasm for season 11 from Satellite News as well, I even recall a bit of a kerfuffle over the notion of it being a continuation vs. a reboot. I still find it very odd that they never covered each bit of news that broke. I myself run a video game fan site, and when a certain long awaited third game was revealed last year I made sure to news anything and everything, because it really was something readers expected and we knew was something we'd be expected to cover. So to see Satellite News being so "blah" about newsing stuff regarding the revival is very strange, both as a fan and as somebody who runs a fan site.
As for K01 and K02, again it is a very bizarre decision not to even news their existence. Obviously Joel does not want us posting the episodes on YouTube or providing mirrored links. But there is absolutely no reason not to news the fact that they exist. The Kickstarter updates do reveal fun little plot and behind the scenes tidbits, but what Joel is asking is not to reveal those sorts of things. It's just really weird to think that Joel's "don't share the backer secrets" request extended to the KTMA episodes, and that they need email approval. I'm sure whoever reads those emails is thinking "Well duh, dude. You can totally news it. Hell, post a synopsis of the host segments. Just don't share the videos."

Something that just occurred to me. It was announced that the next MST3K set from Shout! will have a bonus disc with (almost) all of the host segments from the KTMA era.
I initially thought this would mean K01 - K03 would be left out, BUT, in light of recent events, maybe the host segments from the first two episodes *could* be included, and it's just K03 we'll be missing out on.

On an aside, does anyone have a link to the infamous Superdome thread where the missing host segment was relocated?
