In this fallow period, if I were Joel and team, I'd be posting updates as often as possible, even if I don't have much to actually update about. Watch parties, too. Cheap, easy stuff to keep people engaged. Hell, I'd cut a deal with Frank and Trace and host the Mads stuff on Gizmoplex. Mary Jo, too. Anything to keep engagement. Yes, and you'd think with any sort of orginization, they should be able to do those things with virtually no money. I've seen people complaining that the Cynthia's picks have gone away. Keep doing those, turn each one into a watch party. Get at least one cast member to be at each one. Simple stuff that should all be set up to run easily.

Yeah i guess i did. Its a TBA screening it seems. They're just plugging their next Kickstarter since no one minds that they keep doing those
EDIT: They're showing the Gumby the Movie Rifftrax for everyone (including me probably) who spent their free Rifftrax coupon on it.

Another Kickstarter is going to push Season 14's premiere back another few months, I would think, which means the break between Season 13 and 14 will likely be over a year. These long waits really aren't helping the show's momentum. It feels like Joel is having to rebuild the show's audience from scratch after each season.

Even if the Kickstarter got off the ground and completed before the end of 2023, given the production schedule we've seen for both Season 13 and the Netflix years, most of Season 14 would be released in 2025. They might be able to get something out in calendar 2024, but that's still about two years between the release of The Christmas Dragon and the 1st S14 episode, which would be likely to be unpolished as the first three episodes were of the Gizmoplex "beta." Joel needs the KS money to get movie rights and pay writers to start work on S14, anyway, which is why people worrying that the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes are delaying production are worrying about the wrong thing at the present time. The strike isn't delaying anything at the moment, and won't be unless it's still going after the Season 14 fundraising is over. 2025 is another solid three years between seasons, and you're right about it being difficult to regather your potential audience after that long a break for a very niche show.

and you're right about it being difficult to regather your potential audience after that long a break for a very niche show. Forget about regathering, I'm still waiting for them to go on a streak of improvements like they did from KTMA to Season 3 of TOS. Cuz then maybe it will be at a point I would give it another shot.

Joel's vision for MST3K returning was apparently to return it to 1991 or so, before the troubles with the others started, and to ignore everything that happened in the show after he left, unless he was forced into it for fundraising or fan service. The show he's making is on a level with early Comedy Central, only (my opinion incoming) not nearly as funny because of the kind of writers he's using and the restrictions they have placed on them now, and to me it appears as if he's very happy with remaining right there. That's great for the fans that think that was the best era of the show, or for those who think the new stuff is the best. For everyone else, well, maybe it's time to admit we're not going to see any improvement. I have, and now it's not so much my being angry as being heartbroken, and hurting for the fans who still believe that "one more season, and everything will come together!"

Just got an email from Kickstarter. They finally have their $ for shipping and should be sending out invoices soon. Funnily enough, they're charging shipping for the 3D glasses they sent out a year ago. I wonder what % of backers have lost access to their emails/died/stopped caring and won't pay the shipping.

My favorite comment about them finally getting the shipping started was in response to someone asking what the timeframe was to pay for shipping, as they are in rough financial straits at the moment:
"Honestly, you should have as long to pay as it took you guys to ship.[crying laughing emoji]"
And you know something? That person is RIGHT.
There's going to be quite a bit of sticker shock when those charges start going out.

Saw it a bit when people started responding on FB earlier. I realized I'd ordered the glasses, a t-shirt, a concessions kit, and a Season 12 DVD set. Hopefully it's not too bad on my end.

I just received my e-mail bill. It was $15.05 for the season 12 DVD set and the 3D glasses.

They do know they can put all the stuff in one box right?

I think that's part of the problem. The concession kit of popcorn bucket and drink cup? sippy bottle? is bulky, meaning bigger boxes. Even Lesley admits in the comments on the Forum thread that they didn't see this coming when they decided on this as a reward, and they won't be offering anything like this again in the future.
The people I really feel for are the international backers. A lot of them have experience with things being shipped to them from the US and they are in absolute shock at how high their costs are compared to what they usually pay for comparable shipments.

I was looking around on the KS to see if they ever actually announced / showed what this concessions kit actually was (they said what it wasn't), and I found this and it made me chuckle-- ... and ...
