Well, the Mitchell report is out... sports.yahoo.com/mlb/news?slug=ap-mitchellreport&prov=ap&type=lgnsNot a whole lot of surprise there, but Lenny Dykstra? That kind of surprised me. Benito Santiago was kind of strange, too. Roger Clemens? That did not. What a mess. I'm interested to see the whole list. EDIT - Duh. I forgot Santiago was implicated in the BALCO case.

Todd Hundley? I guess he was good with the Mets, but when he was here in Chicago, he totally sucked. It really is a mess, and it's probably only the tip of the iceberg.

We have hearsay and conjecture. Those are kinds of evidence.

Boy, it sucks when some of your favorites are named (what ever will I do with my Brett Boone bobblehead?), but I'm glad there are quite a few players named so the media can't solely focus on Barry Bonds.
So what happens with the Hall of Famers? Steroid users (assuming they're eventually convicted) can't be allowed into the Hall of Fame, can they? But how do you keep Clemens out... other than for the reason that he's a bat-chunking jerk, that is?

Honestly, none of this shocks me.
I don't know if that's sad or not, but none of this does.

I hope Clemens goes down like the Wicker Man.

No, it really isn't all that shocking. But maybe this is the groundwork for a cleaner sport. It's leaving MLB with no more excuses. Going to be hard to keep their heads in the sand much longer.

It doesn't really shock me (aside from one or two players) and I wish they'd shut up with it already on the news. That's all they can talk about. MITCHELL REPORT, MITCHELL REPORT! I'm surprised I don't have the list memorized yet.
I really hope this helps baseball get back on track. I want to see real players instead of roided up meatheads!

I haven't bothered to read it yet, but I doubt that list is anywhere close to complete. Besides, did anyone notice that the only Red Sox named were ex-players? Mitchell is employed by the Red Sox. Go figure.

Go figure. Bad conspiracy theory there. George Mitchell chaired peace negotiations in Ireland, is a Senior Research Scholar at Columbia, and is a Visiting Professor at the Leeds school for Global Ethics. I think he's above that kind of reproach. He has a solid reputation for objectivity and ethical behavior. A reputation I hardly think he'd soil, losing his livelihood over, merely because he serves on the board of--and has a tangential connection to--a baseball team.

He was a politician. Anything you have to say about ethics flies right out the window after that.

Complete bunk. Yeah, there are a lot of stupid, selfish, unethical politicos out there, but it's sloppy to paint everyone with that brush.
I don't agree with his politics, really, at all, but I admire his strength-of-character. I admire it even more since he was able to navigate the slimy halls of Washington with ethics intact.
