For me, it's just that Dr. F is just so MAD. He's crazy. I like that. I also love Frank because he has no place being his assistant. He's like a stooge who just picked the wrong job. Frank and Dr. F were hysterical on SOOO many levels. From the bumbling Laurel & Hardyesque nature of the bits to the sometimes not so subtle sexual tension between them. They are up there with the greats as a comedy team...IMHO...

Dr. F and Frank had chemisty. Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy were all just sort of meshed together.

I think Brain Guy is hysterical. Bobo is sometimes funny and Pearl is tolerable. I've never really found Frank and Dr. F all that funny though, I don't get why everyones likes them so much. I'd fast forward though their stuff, but their bits were always very short so there's really no need to. John I'm guessing you started watching the Sci Fi's first. It can make a difference what you see first.

Dr. F and Frank had chemisty. quote] That's what I said at the start, but P, B & BG still work for me though.

Well, I guess, in the words of Covenant, "I stand alone..."
I think Pearl is effin' hilarious. She just has such a brilliant combo of meanness and whininess, impeccable timing, and I think she's far more evil than Dr. F. I started watching the show in about 1993, so I saw Dr. F and Frank first. Although I find them amusing, some of their stuff just didn't tickle my funny bone that much. I think the Sci-Fi era shows are funnier overall anyway -- more and funnier riffs -- and Pearl and Brain Guy really make me laugh A LOT. Bobo isn't quite so funny because he's so stupid, but his turn as Matlock (I think) at Mike's trial was priceless, and I also love the episode where Pearl, Bobo and Brain Guy are in a truck stop restroom and Bobo has a handful of condoms. Pearl, "You see, Bobo, when a flower loves a bee very, very much..." That kills me.
I dunno, maybe it's a guy thing, not finding Pearl funny. Maybe girls (like me) can relate to her better. Just a thought.

Here's how it works for me:
I prefer to see Pearl/Bobo/Brain Guy open and close the show.
But I prefer to see Dr. F and Frank in the middle segments.
There are, obviously, exceptions to this rule, but in general I think all the groups are great. They're kinda like the super villains of comic books. I generally prefer The Joker and Deathstroke The Terminator, but there's no way you'll ever get me to wish that comic books didn't have The Kingpin and Lex Luthor.

Having recently bought almost all of the eps in Seasons 6-10 on DVD, I am begining to have a transformation:
Pearl/Bobo and Brain Guy are growing on me...

I liked how (Kevin Murphy, is it? Or Trace Beaulieu? I am new to the wonderful world of Dr. Forrester) would shove his face all up in the camera. He had cool glasses and hair, too. And Frank was awesome, because the name 'Frank" is kinda funny and he was also. And he had nice hair like Dr. Forrester. From what I saw, they had uber chemistry.

And I too loved all the quality's Torgo and Chemical listed about Dr. Forrester. One of my favorite lines from him is in Sidehackers where he says: "It's much too complicated,I'd take a scientist to explain it,and I'm simply just too mad."

You know, it's funny, I love Dr. F and Frank because, well, it brings out good memories, but, so does Pearl, Brain Guy and Bobo. I think people tend to go with the originals over the replacements just in a general fashion. Sure, Dr. F. and Frank had that certain chemistry of hilarity but, P,BG, and B had a chemistry too, just more of a slapstick type chemistry rather than a satire type chemistry. But, you like what you like, I like both equally, but, I like those funny parts in between the host segments best of all,
But that's just me,

For a long while, I had only seen the Sci Fi eps. When I went to college and met my bf, gfanikf, he turned me on to the older mads. I had never seen them before (nor did I know of Joel), so for me, the Pearl/Bobo/Brain Guy segments just seem more like the show itself. It's hard to explain, but they just seem more...like MST3K than the others. That's why I like Mike best too (although, Joel has his funny moments, he's just too bizarre for me). Since I had never seen, nor heard of, the Comedy Central years, I always assumed these WERE the people involved and that's it. I've since watched many older eps, but I still like the Sci Fi ones better.

I, too, fed on the milk of Mike and Pearl and such on the Sci Fi channel for my initial twelve-ish viewings, but I have recently found the world of Joel (such says I haven't been i fan for that long, obviously) and I must admit, I prefer Joel to Mike. No idea why. Happened last weekend. But I hold nothing against you though I may disagree with Joel being bizarre. Which gives me a chance to ask: Anyone know where I can get quick, easy, basic information on Joel?

Pearl, Bobo, and Brain Guy are fine, and rival the old Mads in hilarity.
Yes, it took Pearl a while to catch on - Season 7 and parts of season 8 were clunky at times.
But....watch the "Loving Lovers" duet between Pearl and Brain Guy in 822...watch "Brainguyus" in the "Roman Times" eps...Bill Corbett got it together, and made it funny again. He's a riot in person, too.
