Okay...this where I might disagree with y'all. I would like to take the piss out of Schindler's List and it would be the kind of pompous crap that I would attack if I had my own MST3K show. I LOATHE Speilberg, he ruined American Cinema... he is such an ego-hound...he makes films for two reasons and two reasons only: 1) To be able to roll around in his stacks of money (his net worth is around $700,000,000) 2) To win accolades and Oscars (the EGO thang) He is NOT a film maker...he is a walking talking ego that is out of control. Every single film he has made has a goddamned MAKING OF video...as if we need to see how he produced such crappola as Jurassic PArk of Saving Private Ryan. Gah! And even films that he was loosely connected to, he appears telling us how he was involved. Like American Beauty (another crap film), which, if you watch the accompanying vid, you'd be convinced that it was a film that he directed. I'd love to attack films by Spielberg, Gallo, Korine, Araki, Altman... What person in Hollywood isn't in it for the money? And I highly doubt Oscars are the only reason he makes movies. Why did he make the Indiana Jones trilogy, Jurassic Park 1 & 2, Hook, or Catch Me If You Can? None of these movies would never in a million years win an Oscar. But they are all fun to watch. The two movies he calls his most personal are Schindler's List and ET. Sure SL won and Oscar, but Speilberg is also Jewish making the film mean a lot more to him. And exactly how many oscars are on his shelf for ET? He has exactly 3 oscars, two for SL and one for Saving Private Ryan. I also fail to see how "Making of..." documentaries are a real reason to hate a director. As an aspiring filmmaker I find them facinating and wish to see one on every movie. The story of how much hell it took to make Jaws is nothing short of inspiring. Speilberg is great director for several reasons. The biggest probably being that you can always tell that it is him behind the camera. That is the sign of a true director, if the whole film seems like your signature. Speilberg has made many great movies that I can watch over and over again. Sure AI and Close Encounters fell flat, but I absolutly love the following (in order of preferance): Jaws Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade The Lost World: Jurassic Park Jurassic Park Raiders of the Lost Ark Catch Me If You Can Saving Private Ryan Hook Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom Minority Report

That's just me however. Some people would love to see Star Wars riffed, but I wouldn't. I dunno why, but I don't want people to get the impression that I do not enjoy satire. I really can't put into words what I'm trying to say, but I tried my best. I agree. There are some things that you wouldn't want made fun of since they are so close to your heart. For me, that's Mustangs, MST3K, etc. I DO like Star Wars, but I would love to see a MSTed version of it.

"American Beauty" was a work of pure genius and one that I don't think a person under 40 can "fully" appreciate. What? Did Spielberg directed that? I never saw it. You can only buy so much with 37 dollars. And the reason I do not like Spielberg is because Jurassic Park was a dissapointment for me, despite spelling of 'dissapointment'. I watched it solely because of Jeff Goldblum, and I afterward I didn't think much of it. I am not into the adventure hero saves the day and gets the girl thing, for I saw WAY MORE than the usual share of Disney movies as a younger child. I also saw Catch Me if You Can, which I admit is good, but I still do not like Steven Spielberg. And Kubrick is cool.

Always read the fine print. Boy, poor Rowsdower opened up a can or worms with that post. Wonder what he's gonna think when he comes back. Hey, it's a discussion board where we swap ideas. I'm just offering mine, nothing personal.

STUFF THAT KINDA HAS TO DO WITH THIS POST!!!
Last night, I rented: Blade Runner: The Director's cut (and now I wish I had the original) The Psycho directed by Gus Von Sant or something (To see how bad it is) And 12 Monkeys (because I couldn't find Seven) I have yet to view any. Post comments.

No offense meant, but I don't think a 12 year old will take interest in Blade Runner, Psycho (the original) or even 12 monkeys (although I didn't feel 12 Monkeys was all that great). Personally I didn't find Seven to be all that great. The only thing I really liked about it was the ending. Since I already know it, I see no reason to watch it again. 12 Monkeys I haven't seen. Sounds interesting though.

Yep. I love the music. Do you know the blood in the shower scene was chocolate sauce? That was common in B&W movies.

That was common in B&W movies. What? Chocolate sauce? They must of had a lot of chocolate milk back in those days.
